How on earth did they get the huge flag on the New York skyline well yeah that was a sad moment in the history of North America and the western world and hopefully something like it will never happen again on our side or theirs :cry:

To be quite honest I wouldn't mind if something like this happened to them.  But we'll never have to worry about that because anyone who would carry out something like 9/11 will never be great enough to have something worth blowing up anyway.

Very sad day those 2 years ago. Especially when I hear it in school. Though it reunited our country and we stood together through that day and for these past 2 years.

Now usually i think i try to be affable and generally try to avoid politics when i can, so it is hard for me to put this well.

I am very sympathetic for the people who died during the events on the eleventh of september 2001. it was a terribly horrific assault on innocent civilians. And the bastards who planned it should rot in hell. But although i find a sense of togetherness and patriotism helpful after such a situation i think that it has become detrimental leading to a witchhunt more wars, more bloodshed, and ultimately more Americans, Brits, Iraqi's and Afghans killed as well as a piling up of conspiracies, government lies on both sides of the atlantic, violations of privacy and liberty laws and the persecution of many immigrants. Now i know i may be digging my own grave but i thought that it was prudent to make that point. Sorry if it was a bit insensitive, i am not the best of diplomats and apologise to all i may have offended.

All I'm going to say in response is that there's a difference between watching the horror on the outside and living through the horror on the inside.  I respect your opinion, but as an American,everything hits a little closer to home.  I will always remember...and I respect the American government for the countless lives they have protected both in America and around for the world.

 

As for me, I will never forget.

Everyone always ignores the poor Canadians in afghanstan wearing green well they got new uniforms but you can't forget the canadians :cry: being very serious here

To be perfectly honest I think its a generational thing. Children born today won't be taking time out to remember 9-11 20 years from now. Eventually the news will stop broadcasting it because it won't be boosting their ratings. And the whole story will fall to specials on the History channel or Biography.

 

Just like every major event.

They say that on 9-11 that you will forever remember where you were. I still do. I was a lowly 5th grader 2 years ago and when I went into the classroom. The teacher had the TV on to ABC and I was watching this peculiar image and they were saying "terroists have hit the Twin Towers" or something like that. Then came the order from the principal over the intercom, "Teachers, please shut off all TV's. We will keep you informed on the situation. Thank you." I didn't learn anything more 'till after school when we went to the local gas station. There were a lot of cars lined up in a semi-organized fashion. My step-mom told me (later I learned was only a rumor) that gas prices in Kansas City was $23.00 a gallon. Later I learned the shocking story that we will never forget. The terroist attacks of the WTC and the Pentagon.

I'll never forget when some friends announced they were getting married on Dec 7. I was so shocked.. and even mentioned the signifigance of the date. The bride (who has a masters degree) was clueless. The groom, who was a child in the 40's and remembers growing up during that time, was aware of the date, but was allowing his bride to choose the date. Since it so many years later, neither thought it was a big issue. And I suppose it wasn't. Next year when 9-11 falls on a Friday I am sure there will be weddings happening.

Personally, as a member of the fire and medical field, I can't watch a lot of the documentaries and such that are related. When someone I work with on Thursday morning said *I wish they would quit with the 9-11 stuff* everyone just stared.

 

Yes, history has a way of becoming... history. No longer a current event, it becomes merely a footnote, or a significant event to be discussed by history students. Sad when its an event that changed a nation, and impacted the world.

I agree with you StarDust. And people have forgoten that there was a similar incident at the WTC in 1990. So I'm thinking we had a relapse 2 years ago.

Coming back from my big brother's birthday dinner, quite a shock i can tell you. Especially since we'd been there the summer before. That old home movie i have from the top of one of towers frightens me.

A note about stardusts post. I believe there is a big difference between forgetting the past and moving on. If you respected every day of horror as a day to not celebrate nobody would get married, so hollywood would have no gossip!

Oh, I understand Images. Not saying that every day should be ignored.. I am sure there is some tragic event connect to every day of the year. But not all for us. I know there are major days of tragedy in every country that don't always effect us here. There are just a few days of tragedy in this country that I am amazed people *forget* about. And yes, we do need to move on. I get tired of seeing fresh flowers at all the little crosses along the highway near me. But for the people connected to those who died, its important.

Remember, but move on. I don't need every major television station, radio and print going on about an event, although important, that will eventually become a footnote in a few years. Thats the way things are, and the way things should be. Things are getting to the point where I can't go to a public washroom without somebody stopping me to talk about it. Remember, but move on.

YES! Thank you Zertz! My point exactly. I set up the related topic to remember but all in all, we nedd to move on and think about next year. Uh...then again.. mabye just focus on today because thinking about the election year next year give's me the heebie-jeebies.  :D Anyway, we had a 30-second observance of the events of 9-11 this year, when we had a 15-minute one last year. It will go away and we should go about our lives as scheduled. "Remember and move on."

I find that highly offending Zertz.  The WTC attacks are the best deffinition of Pearl Harbor for my generation.  I agree with the other people that say remeber, but move on...But from you it sounds like its just some event waiting to go down in out in the new edition of peoples history book.

 

And so what if people talk to you in the bathroom, this is the most  that Americans have been united since Pearl Harbor itself.  If you cant stand a little love for ones country, dont go outside.

 

To say that 9-11 is nothing more then a foot note in history, is to say that 20 years from now, when this is just a subsection in a history book, no one will care.

Here's something to put it in perspective. Dont take this the wrong way, please.

 

Think about a tragic event very far in the past and see if it really brings up any emotional reaction. Say, the eruption of Vesuvius and the death of many people at Pompii.

 

My point is just that everyone who experienced and can remember the event first-hand will be emotionally attached to it. Those who weren't alive when it happened will not...and at that point it will just become another page in history.

 

You should make a promise not to forget...but dont forget to get on with your life. What I'm thankful for....is that we're the ones writing the history. So when people learn of it a hundred years from now, they'll think of the heroism of the people of New York when the tragedy occured, and the actions of the passengers on board the plane in Penn.

 

Even though I think its going to become a page in a history book, that knowledge makes me smile.

I would almost have to agree with Images. I love this country with all my heart but he is right, but it seems that Bush has taken to great of a step into defending our country. He almost started WW3

Yes, I will not expess my opinion due to the terms and conditions of STSF. ::sees A9, Fred, Sovak, and Webmaster back away:: However, I will say this. This war (or post-war operations he calls it) has cost us so many lives and money, and now this. He is asking $87 billion and the troops are having to stay longer. This destroyes the economy and morale. This has got to stop. He should concentrate more on N. Korea or Afganistan. That's all I will say.
