Dichotomy of Purpose | Season 19

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 23 August 2013

11 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.194

= Season 19 Premiere =

One full day has passed and still the fate of those aboard Nei’rrh remains unknown.

The Romulan shuttle with Centurion tr’Korjata and Lt Kital aboard was on a shakedown cruise from Aegis to Trill when it passed close to cartel space and came under attack by several vessels bearing resemblance to those of the Ebony Blade cartel.

USS Missouri, on routine patrol in the area, was unable to intervene. At Captain Chirakis’ request, Missouri recorded and relayed the attack via secure channel. After a massive explosion, all communication with Nei’rrh was lost.

The mumps virus from Mist Station 3 is still under investigation. It has been identified as manufactured, but by whom and for what purpose remains to be seen. Several theories are being considered, but as data is gathered it only poses more questions than answers.

Mr. Roberts has taken Revenge to parts unknown for reasons unknown.

Dichotomy of Purpose: Reconstruction and Turmoil

The year is 2387 and Sky Harbor Aegis remains vanguard in neutral space. Surrounded by the Cardassian Union, the Tzenkethi Coalition, the Ferengi Alliance, the United Federation of Planets, and the former Breen Confederacy, Aegis is governed by the Joint Allied Powers: The Provisional Government of Bajor, the Ferengi Alliance, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, and the United Federation of Planets.

At present Sky Harbor Aegis attempts to maintain an air of normalcy while several incidents within and without push them into a political dance. Because of its position in neutral space and its very nature as a joint allied endeavour, Aegis is at the hub of Allied travel, commerce, and communication, and often finds itself an unwitting intermediary among them. The struggle is often felt but not openly voiced, seen but discussed only in select circles.

In answer to the external threats, the Federation developed a Border Patrol of Akira Class refit starships, each sporting 3 flights of P-70B Peacekeeper patrol craft and 1 flight of A-85 Crusader attack fighters. Originally purposed to defend against the Breen, the USS Missouri, USS Iowa, USS New Jersey, and the USS Wisconsin patrol the border of known space. Their mission: peace. Their purpose: containment of all who threaten that peace.

The Breen have disappeared, theoretically swallowed by subspace in a botched attempt to live, work, and travel therein, then emerge to destroy all opposition. The subspace blast that closed their portal and proved their demise was the catalyst that pushed the supernova near ch’Rihan over the edge to threaten its very existence.

Despite the devastation of a gamma ray storm caused by that star, the Romulan Star Empire has so far remained stable. Though most escaped the planet and nearby colonies before the catastrophe, their home world was rendered uninhabitable for generations and their losses numbered in the millions. Entire families were wiped out and those who survived lost relatives, friends, and allies. Perhaps the most affected were the first to be evacuated; hundreds of thousands of children are now orphaned.

As a prime actor in ch’Rihan’s evacuation, Aegis has become a center for reconstruction and reorganization. After assisting in the evacuation of ch’Rihan, the newly-commissioned Romulan-Federation starship, Aegean, and Mr. Roberts’ starship, Revenge, assisted the Romulan High Council in their search for planets suitable for temporary colonization.

In addition, the Sky Harbor has become a refuge for displaced children. Under the direction of an Orrha ch’Veothdigaer (Childrens’ Home Director), the children are cared for and educated to strict Rihan standards while they await reunion with their families. Those whose families cannot be found are slowly being adopted by other Rihan. However, there are always those with less altruistic goals. Recent events have shown that orphaned children have become the target of child traffickers - a terrifying reality and chief among the threats from within.

Adding to that was the recent targeting of the Sky Harbor by Romulan renegades who sought to use it as a base of operations from where they could assert their power and authority to reform the Romulan Star Empire. Their failed attempt at taking the station resulted in a focused hunt for the true perpetrators: individuals buried in groups buried within groups - those whose professed goals do not reflect their true purpose.

While hunting for the perpetrators of that scheme, evidence collected at their hidden base on Mist Station 3 pointed to larger plots whose fingers may reach into the highest levels of Starfleet and the Romulan Star Empire. Those plots include a plan for genocide aimed at the human race and a scheme for political and military control of the quadrant.

As we enter our 19th year Sky Harbor Aegis treads lightly, balancing our mission to protect and defend the Joint Allied Powers and their citizens, with the intercessory needs of all, including our own.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 20 September 2013

13 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.196

In light of the aging state of Aegis, the hours and frequency of repairs and the lack of component compatibility and the cost of replacement parts, the Federation has engaged Rov, design and construction contractor, to “aid in station repairs and survey for refit or whatever is needed.” After a preliminary investigation, Rov approached Captain Chirakis who called an immediate meeting with Mr. Roberts and Commander Coleridge.

Lt. Lawliet has determined that a good portion of the materials confiscated from the Mist Station had been subjected to particle synthesis and, though masked, are Federation in origin. He will be approaching medical for further investigation.

On Trill, Centurion tr’Korjata meets Lt Kital’s parents while Annisha recovers from her surgery and Centurion tr’Korjata contemplates guardianship.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 27 September 2013

14 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.197

TBS was 24 hours.

The time at sim begin is 0800, Aegis relative.

SubCommander Jorahl’s patience was tried as the civilian contractor, Rov, invaded his engineering space to conduct stress tests on the station.

Jylliene, Nijil, and Annisha are on Trill, visiting with Jylliene’s parents while the shuttle is repaired. Annisha has made occasional comments about her parents and her life as a slave. The comments about her parents point to the Tal Shiar.

On a related note, SubCommander tr’Jeth Dabi has been called to a high level meeting of the RSE High Command to discuss the safety of the Rihan children aboard the station.

Captain Chirakis intercepted a cursory memo from Starfleet R&D on the use of particle synthesis to manipulate - and therefore alter - single strands of virus. Particle synthesis is a highly advanced form of holography that has heretofore been well beyond Federation capability. The memo parallels science’s investigation into the use of particle synthesis to manipulate a virus on Mist Station 3, one that points directly to the Federation.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 4 October 2013

18 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.201

TBS was 4 days.

Antares Maelstrom has departed Aegis en route to New Caledonia with the Vulcan survivors of Captain Solok’s ship, T’Kumbra. They will be joining the other involuntary members of the colony as permanent residents in paradise.

Mr. Lawliet and Dr. Pavilion are drawing closer to the origins and the possible purpose of the MS3 virus strain. In their investigations they examine a device that, according to SubCommander Jorahl, was “a key part of most Romulan high power devices of the previous centuries: plasma weapons, cloaks, propulsion. But it’s been modified.”

Nijil, Jylliene, and Annisha are en route to Aegis from Trill, to dock shortly after sim begin. Annisha has furnished the names of other children who were enslaved with her. She remembers parts of her past that suggest her parents were Tal Shiar, bringing her pending adoption by Nijil to an entirely new level.

Unbeknownst to Nijil, his parents survived the devastation of ch’Rihan and have arrived on Aegis.

SubCommander tr’Jeth Dabi has returned from his meeting with the Romulan High Command, subject unknown. They are presumed to be discussing the security of Aegis’ Children’s Home, but rumors of a High Command - Tal Shiar schism leaves us wondering.

Civilian contractor Rov continues his investigation of the station in preparation for refit or renewal. So far he has succeeded in causing several migraines and has become a major headache for department heads as he invades their personal spaces and disrupts their duties. In his enthusiasm Rov finally provokes the ire of the captain, who brings him to a swift understanding of station security.

Quote of the week:

Security officer Cordelia Thompson (played by Revon), monitoring Rov’s movements:

“Jeez, guy sounds like he belongs at Honest John’s Starship Dealer.”

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 10 October 2013

19 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.202

TBS was 24 hours.

The Akira class heavy cruiser, USS Toronto, Starfleet’s newest addition to their growing Border Patrol fleet, is docked at Aegis. Aegis crew has been touring the latest and greatest improvements with the idea of perhaps adopting some for Aegis’ renovations.

Lt Lawliet and SubCommander Jorahl have examined the strange MS3 device, which was altered to be used as a power supply.

Mai consulted Dr. Pavilion about adopting a Rihan child.

Centurion tr’Korjata is under the gun for entering Aegis space with Nei’rrh under cloak.

During the TBS the crew has had the opportunity to tour USS Toronto. Their crew is acquainting themselves with ours and the amenities available on Sky Harbor Aegis. Centurion tr’Korjata’s fate concerning his error with Nei’rrh’s cloak hangs on the findings of a review board. Captain d’Ka of USS Missouri inadvertently passed information to Captain Chirakis regarding the area where Nie’rrh encountered elements of the Ebony Blade cartel.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 18 October 2013

20 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.203

TBS was 24 hours.

USS Toronto continues to accept visitors from Aegis personnel. Their Executive Officer, Cdr Glenn Standard, has recruited Dr. Feretti not only as CSCI but as Second Officer. She will depart with the ship but will return whenever Toronto docks at Aegis.

SubCenturion Korjata is accosted at the entrance to the Children’s Home and Mr. Rov is prevented from entering the security complex because of a glitch in Aegis’s internal communications system. Again.

SubCommander Jorahl presents a disturbing thought regarding the MS3 virus as he works with Lt Lawliet.

Dr. Schawnsee has successfully removed Captain Chirakis’ subcutaneous implant.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 25 October 2013

21 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.204

TBS was 24 hours

Counselor Davis and SubCenturion Korjata spent time in the Children’s Home, the counselor with sniffly toddlers and tr’Korjata with consoles and atmospheric filtration systems. As the filtration systems reset, temperatures in the Home dropped drastically, the perfect opportunity to educate the Romulan children in the concept of snow.

Ensign Dacia Sandero, pediatrician and general practitioner, joined the medical team.

Concern for the welfare of Aegis’ population grew with Lt. Lawliet’s investigations into the MS3 virus. As a precaution, Dr. Pavilion has ordered all personnel to receive weekly injections of a broad-spectrum antiviral preventative, with focus on humans, the very young, the elderly, and those with immunosuppressed systems. Some who were on the station when it orbited Cardassia were reminded of the deadly plague that claimed many.

USS Toronto will depart at sim begin. In the wake of their departure, several new vehicles will arrive from SFHQ in preparation for our upcoming construction phase. Yes, crew, there is a Great Pumpkin!

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 1 November 2013

23 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.206

TBS was 2 days.

The Children’s Home is now devoid of cold and flu symptoms, but the presence of the MS3 virus on the station, though contained, raises the possibility that the station may be in danger. Captain Chirakis has called a departmental meeting (everyone) to discuss the matter.

The FedEx 5039 Heavy Transport docked, bringing personal items for various crewmembers and official Starfleet cargo: 1 Danube Class runabout and 8 Sentry Class runabouts, to protect the station during reconstruction.

To protect the station and those aboard, the Rihan child, Annisha, has been tracked into an advanced educational program. SubCenturion Korjata is to be her teacher and Dr. Davis will be facilitator.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 8 November 2013

25 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.208

TBS is 48 hours.

Tr’Korjata is reinstated to Centurion. The review board has absolved him of negligence and has recommended him for commendation for the daring rescue of Annisha. That rescue led to the rescue of the other children held on the slave planet and the capture and dissolution of the Ebony Blade Cartel.

USS Missouri and Major Anastis’ elite “Nightmares” SPECOPS commando unit are en route bearing the remaining children from the Ebony Blade’s slave colony as well as the surviving prisoners from the cartel. [Ares Rising]

It has been determined that the MS3 virus is not a major threat to the station, but caution is advised. As an added precaution, Dr. Saldero has begun research to determine if Rihan children are susceptible to the virus.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 15 November 2013

26 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.209

TBS is 24 hours.

The USS Missouri delivered the rest of the Romulan children who were held as slaves by the Ebony Blade Cartel. Medical personnel are settling them into the Children’s Home where they continue evaluation and treatment. Also aboard Missouri were several cartel members who are now being delivered to the RSE High Command.

Drs. Sandero and Schawnsee have determined that the Rihan immune system is more hardy than the human one and the children will easily handle the MS3 virus. If contracted, the worst they will get is a bad case of the sniffles and a runny nose. Animal therapy is being considered to help the children return to normal life.

SubCommander Jorahl and Centurion tr’Korjata discussed modifications to Nei’rrh. Centurion tr’Korjata will soon find a live targ, Mr. Cuddles, on his credit card, courtesy of Annisha. Jylliene has already found an even larger charge on the station’s growing credit card bill, courtesy of Rov.

Lieutenant Lawliet, our new Chief of Science, was introduced to the burden of command.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 22 November 2013

27 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.210

TBS was 24 hours.

Previously, on Sky Harbor Aegis:

Our new Danube and Sentry Class runabouts have created great interest. During the course of the shift, Mr. Roberts, LtCdr Ramson, and SubCommander tr’Jeth Dabi took turns inspecting them. Mr. Roberts thoroughly examined the new Sentry Class Guardian.

Noting Annisha’s presence in engineering for her daily lessons, SubCommander Jorahl instructed her to keep Centurion Korjata out of trouble. Was he prompted by tr’Korjata’s natural tendencies or by the black SFIntel uniform the 9-year-old wears in case the captain needs a replacement?

SubCommander tr’Jeth Dabi has been distant, quiet, and reserved since returning from his meeting with the High Command. His concern for the future of his people, and especially his own line, seem to be all-consuming. A common thread seems to be running through the station as personal bonds strengthen among the crew.

In the Children’s Home, Dr. Pavilion finalized the paperwork needed to strengthen the adoption procedure. Dr. Sandero’s pug, Chester, performed admirably as the “test” animal for animal therapy, under the watchful eyes of Dr. Schawnsee, Lt Lawliet, and Counselor Davis.

SubCommander Jorahl received the final design for the station from Rov, whose knack for grating remarks and over-enthusiasm did not impress the Chief of Engineering. In particular, he is concerned that Rov’s experimental design for the power structure could “send the station down in flames.” The SubCommander has demanded a full report and diagrams before any action is taken to remove the power cores.

29 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.212

TBS was 2 days.

Medical is choosing therapy animals and investigating prospective adoptive parents (not necessarily connected).

Annisha and tr’Korjata were poking around the new runabouts. They noticed that 3 Sentry class and the lone Danube class have names but no NCC numbers.

At sim begin, a “food grade” Rihan cargo ship will be arriving.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 6 December 2013

30 July 2387 - Stardate 2387.213

TBS was 1 day.

An aging Rihan freighter, Lagga, has arrived, to be used by the senior tr’Korjata, but for what purpose? Her charter captain, Tellesa, has proven quite a distraction for the Centurion who signed for it.

Lt. Lawliet consulted with Dr. Pavilion concerning his investigation into the effects of tachyon pulses on biomatter.

Drs. Pavilion, Schawnsee, and Davis continued what seems an endless, but rewarding task of proper care of the Rihan orphans, which now includes vetting of the therapy animals… including a targ?

1 August 2387 - Stardate 2387.215

TBS is 2 Days

Captain Chirakis has left the station for TKR-117, to attend an archaeological convention that will include scientific dignitaries from all five allied powers. While she is away, the first phase of station construction will begin: tearing apart the subspace array. Mr. Roberts has deployed the sentry runabouts so the station will not be blind during this phase. The station alert level has been elevated as a precaution.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 20 December 2013

1 August 2387 - Stardate 2387.215

TBS was 5 minutes.

Mr. Roberts is in command.

The captain has disappeared while investigating an archaeological dig on TKR-117.

Serious medical training has begun for all personnel. Mr. Lawliet receives a prominent visitor.

Station construction continues. Subspace arrays are powered down for disassembly Secondary transmitters are engaged. As the station’s communication grid loses power, datalink and communications are bolstered by Aegean’s remote comm relays and Protector and Sentinel datalinks. Revenge is in a patrol pattern, 2 Wraith fighters on escort, the rest on 5 minute scramble. Station fighters are on heightened patrol.

And there seems to be an interesting build up of tachyons in the area just as the Tsingtao Victory enters the far edge of the system on a cargo run.

1 August 2387 - Stardate 2387.215

TBS was 33 minutes.

The Tsingtao Victory, a cargo ship bound for Aegis with communications equipment and sensor pallets for the reconstruction, was attacked by an Klingon battleship transponding as the IKS KraH’kHn. None of the crew of the Tsingtao Victory was injured, but the ship was stripped of its cargo. Two Long Lance anti-ship missiles took down the Klingon Negh’var class ship’s shields, but it cloaked and escaped.

The station remains at Battle Stations Condition 2 (yellow alert).

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 10 January 2014

3 August 2387 - Stardate 2387.215

The time is 0400 on Saturday, 3 August, 2387.

The station has been under systematic bombardment from a Negh’var Class Klingon battleship every 33 minutes for the last 36 hours. The crew is on a rotation of 20 minute naps between attacks.

The station was under reconstruction and many systems were offline when the attacks began. There is still no sign of USS Missouri, USS Iowa, or reinforcements from the Allied Powers. As Captain Chirakis is still MIA on TKR-117, Mr. Roberts is in command.

3 August 2387 - Stardate 2387.216

The time is 0510 Aegis relative.

TBS was 10 minutes.

The station is in shambles, barely holding together after the IKS KraH’kHn pounded the engineering boom and other strategic areas of the station.

Aegean took out KraH’kHn’s port nacelle and started her spinning toward Pylon A. Caught in a tractor beam, KraH’kHn’s captain, HoD Chirakis, accused Roberts of collaborating with “Romulan scum” and set the self destruct.

IKS KraH’kHn and HoD Chirakis are no more. Captain Chirakis, however, has mysteriously reappeared.

At sim begin Captain Chirakis will be in Drakkor on final approach to Aegis.

Long-range communications have improved allowing the station to send and receive limited messages. USS Missouri, the station’s primary Federation Border Patrol vessel, as well as several vessels from the RSE and Klingon Empire are en route.

Captain Chirakis is under house arrest. Voice, facial, and DNA evidence confirm the connection between the captain and HoD Chirakis, captain of the attacking ship.

3 August 2387 - Stardate 2387.216

TBS was 10 minutes.

Mr. Roberts is in command.

Captain Chirakis is under house arrest.

Damage to the station is considerable, though the full extent is still unknown. Power is slowly being restored. Most damage is to the M/AM array and the engineering boom on Pylon A. The control tower is 8 cm off center. Transporters are down. Fighter pilot losses now number ten.

Aegean and Revenge are currently assessing the defense grid status. Fighter crews are cannibalizing whatever is in the bay for repairs.

A Joint Allied Task Force led by Starfleet’s USS Missouri, along with the D'deridex Class RSE Praetor, and K’t’inga Class IKS Fek’lhr have entered Aegis space. They and their accompanying vessels are tasked with defending the station and are standing ready to assist Aegis in any way possible. They have formed a defense perimeter and are coordinating their patrols with Aegis and Revenge.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 7 February 2014

3 August 2387 - Stardate 2387.216

TBS was 2 hours

The time at sim begin is 2120 hours (9:20 pm).

Mr. Roberts is in command. Captain Chirakis is under house arrest.

As the station licks its wounds we find them almost too much to fathom. After the attacks it is more apparent that mere repair is not practical nor possible for some areas. Too many areas of the station and too many critical systems are irreparable, leaving few alternatives.

After Lt. Lawliet’s unsuccessful attempt to restore Captain Chirakis’ memory, she was examined by Dr. Pavilion; Mr. Roberts awaits her report.

Meanwhile, USS Missouri’s science scans detected an unusual configuration of tachyons where IKS KraH’kHn first appeared. A flight of P-70B Peacekeepers is en route to examine the area. A joint allied task force is in place to defend the station.
