All the News that's Fit, We Print

I just thought I'd get this out to you all before someone stumbled over it and started mumbling about it.

 

I have started building the "News" page that's been a non-link for a year.  Initially, it will simply be a restatement of all the Announcements that were posted on the home page and put in the "From the GMs" folder.

 

That's it, nothing thrilling, just functional, neh?

Can we add a gossip column?  A sports section?  Stock reports?

Actually here's what I would include...

 

A little description of each ships current mission, written by a crewmember designated by the CO.

 

A top 10 list like:

Top ten things you might find Atragon and Jami doing in a room together :D:)

 

Maybe sports reports (Fake like the Lunar Lugnuts vurses the Titan Titans.)

 

Also, add a section for promotions of various crewmembers. Just a small list of those who were promoted and their new and old ranks.

Debate's still ongoing as to how detailed this section is going to be. I personally wouldn't expect it to give more than brief statements about STSF events. :D

yes, we would have. but the news page should be just well... news. I have no problem with it. Just decide on what it should be. Even make a poll and let the members decide. I really don't care

this is reminding me of the focus group in the "Poochie" episode of the simpsons! Hmmmm a news page, i think it should be more of a fun page like it's been suggested cos frankly very little actual news ever happens ::at this point in time saddam drives past in a pickup truck with jimmy hoffa's body in the back::

Oh! And it should have up to date info on Trek stuff like the new season of Enterprise and Star Trek actor birthdays. :nod:

Well, I have to admit that when A9 first said he wanted to compile all the announcements onto a "News" page, I didn't see the point.

 

But now that it's there, it is fun to see them all in one big timeline.  It's the closest thing to a scrapbook we're likely to get in this medium.

No poll, no focus groups - It's up, it's ready for use and it's just Forum-wide news.  No shipboard promotions or mission briefings or ship descriptions.  There are places for those elswhere on the Boards or on ship websites.

What about cadet graduations?  Those are forum-wide events too.  At least the first couple graduations should be up because that was a milestone for STSF as well.
