Overworked (Part 2)

Assistant Medical Officer's Log

Fire. Smoke. Heat. Running. Thrashing. Screaming. Stumbling. Coughing. Choking.

Relief.

Shivering. Fear. Helpless. Dying. Pleading. Begging. Crying. Death…Silence.

Victor woke suddenly. He sat upright and his eyes darted back and forth across the room looking for something that wasn’t there. It was just the sickbay, the closest thing to something sinister simply the lights on a monitor blinking. He put his head in his hands and rubbed his brow to stop the pounding in his brain, it was slick with sweat. He’d had the dream again. A nightmare. “The” Nightmare. The only nightmare he ever had, the same thing happening every time.  He sighed, lay back down on the Biobed and tried to get to sleep. He closed his eyes and tried but he kept fidgeting, never feeling comfortable and feeling hot. He let out an angry grunt and got up. He walked over to a medical supply drawer and found his sleeping meds. Sheepy had prescribed them to him back when the dreams were a regular occurrence but they had stopped and so had Victor’s prescription to them. However they were obviously back due to stress. He’d only use it this one time. Victor took a hypo and loaded it up. He went back to the biobed and settled beneath the blanket, then he took the medication, rested the hypo on the side table before he blissfully went to a dreamless sleep.
