The Weather Channel is under significant flak for doing this in the Meteorology community. I personally do not see the Meteorologists who work for the The Weather Channel pushing for this type of decision. It reeks of an NBC/Universal decision to gain ratings by giving winter storms names. A use of what happens during Hurricane season when the National Hurricane Center gives names for storms. Hurricane coverage is the Weather Channel's strongest ratings draw. Thinking this would work for Winter Storms, this network is embarrassing itself with this decision.

Again I imagine it was NBC/Universal that was behind this attempt to get more ratings. I pity the staff at the TWC for having to abide by it. John Hope must be rolling in his grave.
