Crash Calestorm

CDR Calestorm Log
Professional Tension

The anti-piracy picket for New Vulcan was going well. The mission was legitimate due to the increase of illegal activity in the area, but it also served a dual purpose – cover and subterfuge. The USS Comanche Creek would remain on patrol while hand-picked personnel were dispatched on an upcoming high profile and covert mission.

Commander Calestorm had joined the latest CAP* patrol after being medically cleared for duty. She was completing her assigned vector when the ship pinged her with a private communication on the command team’s private channels.

She toggled the necessary commands into the inset keyboard in the cockpit and spoke freely, already knowing who it was. The raven haired commanding officer of the First Threat Response program appeared on a monitor.

“Admiral Coyote. You should be contacting my Commanding Officer directly since I’m on probation.”

“I’ve just spoken with your Captain. And, then I asked for a direct link to you, Commander. I wanted to inform you both that the USS James Walking Bear* has been dispatched to Aquarious Minor. For now, the situation there will be monitored until the completion of Phase 2.”

“We gonna get the word to move on Phase 2 soon? Me ‘n the Cap’n and our people are raring to go on target.”

“Yes, Captain Wesley informed me of that as well. I will contact her directly with the final word in a short period of time.”

“Good. It’s time we get our people back. And, it’ll be nice to take part in a mission where the objective is clearly defined…” Calestorm said a lot without saying much.

“…maybe next time you’ll keep in mind that most situations will have political consequences.” Coyote did not back down.

“Or perhaps, as a mutual friend of ours is fond of saying: Starfleet has lost the instinct to leap without looking. Seems as if the FTR is doing everyone else’s job these days...” Crash wasn’t backing down either.

Both of the women stared at one another over the long distance wireless feed; a lot of words being passed and yet none being said.

“Commander.”

“Admiral.”

The connection went dead.

Willing the tension in her shoulders and jaw away, Calestorm maintained her starfighter position for a few moments. She activated the secure wireless connection in her helmet and linked her transmittal to both the Comanche Creek and the CAP patrol. “This is Shepherd 2. I’m completing my run and heading back to the Barn. I repeat, Hornet 20 heading back to the Barn…”

*Wild Kingdom moment. I swear to the Great Bird of the Galaxy, I kept getting mental flashes of two elder female wolves circling one another while writing this log.

*CAP – Combat Air Patrol.

*First Threat Response vessel, under the command of Captain Ron Tracey. See our Chain of Command chart for further details.
