What a Difference a Decade Makes!

In the summertime of 2002, a group of online Star Trek simmers who were associated with a (ahem) certain large online community decided that the simming group was suffering. The online organization that had sponsored them had been invoking extreme rules and regulations that were making it very difficult for the sims and players to enjoy their games and a lot of people longed for the "way it used to be" when sims and players had more freedom to have fun playing their games.

This group (self-titled "The Rebel Alliance," Fred, was that your name?) met at the 2002 Shoreleave convention in Hunt Valley, MD and decided that they would strike out on their own to build a Star Trek simming group to allow the GMs and players to enjoy the simming experience once again.

On July 31, 2002 (ten years ago today) the group decided to choose the name of Star Trek Simulation Forum and STSF was born. We reached out to StarTrek.com to offer up our services to the website as a fully-built and coordinated simulation gaming structure. By August of 2002, we had regular training and advanced sims running in the StarTrek.com chat rooms and we have continued to build our organization ever since.

On behalf of the GM Council and the rest of the GMs, I want to thank everyone for joining us here and sharing your time, creativity and love of all things Trek. We promise to keep simming here as long as there is interest in Star Trek out in the world! What a long, strange trip it's been!!

Just to toss out some memories, when STSF was 5 years old, we went to the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas and even got a table to showcase our group. Here are two pictures from then, one shows us "in action," and fielding questions. The other one is a closer view of the table, where you can see our fridge magnets and our signed picture of Wil Wheaton. He dedicated the autograph to the USS Wesley Crusher, the first Academy sim ship that STSF ran on August 11, 2002. It blew up (of course) and has never been resurrected.

Here here! I second that! Thank you to the "Rebel Alliance" as well as Fleet Admiral Atragon-9 and the STSF Forum Council for taking that leap ten years ago.

The STSF site. Is. The Awesomeness.

Happy Anniversary Star Trek Simulation Forum!

A shame Williams never wrote a "Rebel March", as it would be appropriate for this weekend's festivities.

I thought you said the StarTrek.com chat rooms were only going to be down for a short time.
