Not Gonna Say It

“Captain, the day something happens around here and I don't know about it, worry.” – Commander Susan Ivanova, Executive Officer (Babylon Five, Season 3 Episode 1 “Matters of Honor”)

The following log takes place just prior to the 07.30.12 ComancheCreek Sim…

Secondary Exploratory – Team 4

City of Grayson, Outer Territory

Four, two person teams had been deployed to the territories outside the city of Grayson. Their orders were to patrol and observe in the assigned directions of north, south, east and west, hit the twenty mile mark and then fade out for a covert beamup back to the ship. If any unforseen events occured, they were authorized to cut and run. As with the main exploratory team dealing with the blanket recon of the city, the secondary teams were disguised as itinerant adventurers, livestock herders, or travelers heading towards the outer settlements andvillages.

The teams were not of the Comanche Creeks MARDET, FORECON or SEC* departments; instead, they represented the Medical and Science departments. Deployed two hours ahead of the main city team, their orders were straight from the head honcho. For whatever reasons and known only to her, the Captain had not informed the primary away team operatives and officers or the Commander* of the secondary deployments, or so word from the sheep herd went.

“Got some movement. And it isn’t a storm cloud or one of those zippy balls. Immediate trajectory is away from the castle.”

The lead SCPO* for Team 4, responsible for the western territory spread, glanced at her partner and then activated her own eyepiece to confirm. Disguised as a vintage field telescope but with all the modern bells and whistles, she adjusted the sighting mechanism to zoom in and that…was definitely not a cloud. It was a…no. No! Not going to say it. Lowering the eyepiece, the Chief’s expression was priceless.

Leaning casually on his walking stick, her taller male companion grinned at her. “C’mon, say it. You know you want to.”

“No comment and stuff it.” She tapped at her earpiece by way of gesturing at him. “Get on the secure communications line, inform the Old Lady...”

----

*MARDET - Marine Detachment

*FORECON - Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance

*SEC - Security

*Like Ivanova (or any good XO), I’m sure the Commander is perfectly aware of the Captain’s secondary Away Teams

*SCPO - Senior Chief Petty Officer
