USS Excalibur June 10 2012 Sim

Cptn Swain -> MISSION BRIEF: Aboard the Augustine -- shortly after losing contact with the AT, an explosion of unknown cause/origin rippled through sickbay. Excalibur was able to extract three of the four members of the AT.

Aboard the Excalibur -- An investigation into the explosion has begun, while the survivors are treated for heavy burns. Science/Medical (under the supervision of the XO) are also continuing an investigation into the husks found aboard the Augustine.

On the surface -- the team headed to the lower levels, where the dampening field, which prevents beaming, communications, and sensors scans, seems to be located. When we paused, they had just stepped out of the lift.

Cptn Swain -> BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain -> BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain -> BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> Though he seemed okay at first, Ensign White has been sedated in sickbay as well.

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Takes a deep breath as the lift door opens.::

T'Prehl -> ::in Excalibur's Science lab, analyzing the husks(?)::

Fae -> :: On the bridge, holding Excal not far from Augustine, but with a course at the ready to return to the planet ::

Maryse Dubois -> ((You're on the surface with us T'Prehl. I think.))

Cptn Swain -> ((If you were on the surface last week, you're still on the surface. ))

Rue Wydown -> ((T'Prehl and Karl - you're both on the planet folks))

T'Prehl -> (Alright, thanks! )

T'Prehl -> @::on the surface rather, following Dr. Dubois out of the lift::

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: follows out of the elevator

Taryn Castell -> @ ::With the away team, Taryn stepped out of the lift with the others, checking her sensor readings to see if they could pick up anything while in the dampening field.::

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The passage way leading out away from the lift is a long hallway carved directly into the rocks. The air is humid with a sort of sticky sweet smell in the air, like over ripe fruit.

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Looking over at Tandy's cutout. Absorbed in his work as usual.:: He said the source of the field is on this level.

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: starts scanning with a tricorder

T'Prehl -> @::Looking around, evaluating their surroundings::

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> Sensor scans are all over the place, as if they're being reflected and bouncing back and forth.

Cptn Swain -> ::Glances over to Fae, and takes a deep breath. More waiting.::

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Definitely not liking the smell.::

Charlotte Matsumura -> @ ::at the back of the lift, senses on alert::

T'Prehl -> @ ::would feel uneasy at the smell and humidity if she were human::

Fae -> Stay by Augustine, Captain?

Karl A. Schultz -> @ I can't get anything... Sensor scans are being reflected by something

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The lighting is very low beyond the lighting strips near the lift itself.

Charlotte Matsumura -> @ ::noting the smell also, recognizing the scent of decay::

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Looking over at T'Prehl.:: Suggestions?

Rue Wydown -> ::heading up the bridge momentarily from her hovering over the science team::

Cptn Swain -> ::Nods:: For now. Continue working to see if you can find away around the dampening field.

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> ::heading for OPS, Lorraine in tow::

T'Prehl -> @::nods in acknowledgement:: Indeed, I am guessing that the rock formations is a major factor. I would suggest setting a lower frequency to minimize the feedback.

Fae -> :: Starts looking at the dampening field data ::

Maryse Dubois -> @ That might not help us if the dampening field is natural.

Karl A. Schultz -> @ probably something in the rocks are distorting the sensor scans

Tandaris Admiran -> @::apparently so sneaky not even the rest of the team notices him::

T'Prehl -> @Indeed, it wouldn't. ::nods at Karl:: Yes, I would think that is the case.

Maryse Dubois -> @ The smell is a little unnerving as well. Possible decay of some sort.

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: approaches a rock wall and runs sensor scans to see how the scans are being deflected

Tandaris Admiran -> @::looks around the hallway::

Tandaris Admiran -> @ We should explore this level further and see what its purpose was. Perhaps there are some experiments, some equipment—something that will indicate the source of the field.

Rue Wydown -> ::entering the bridge, arms folded across her chest::

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Lorraine> I don't think I need to tell you to keep your temper in check.

T'Prehl -> @ More husks perhaps?

Cptn Swain -> @ACTION> Scans can faintly detect a very, very high frequency audio pulse, far out of the range of Human or Vulcan hearing, though with all the interference, it would be difficult to localize.

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> No, Anna, you don't need to tell me.

Cptn Swain -> ::Turns as the bridge doors open:: Commander.

Maryse Dubois -> @ Husks or something else...

Rue Wydown -> Did I hear this right? ::raises a brow:: Is our away team still on that planet after there's an explosion on the ship we've been assigned to investigate?

Cptn Swain -> ::He nodded, having figured she would object.::

T'Prehl -> @ ::Looks at her tricorder:: Perhaps. With this humidity, and that audio frequency I'm getting, perhaps a nesting area?

Karl A. Schultz -> Only mineral that could interfere, I know is magnesite...

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Lorraine> Because if I *were* to tell you to keep your temper in check, I'd also remind you that you can't just steamroll over the station command structure.

Maryse Dubois -> @ Audio frequency?

Tandaris Admiran -> @::looks back over his shoulder at the mention of a frequency::

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> They're not *in* my chain of command. ::rounding the corner and heading for the door to ops::

T'Prehl -> @::Nods:: Yes, it's very faint. My tricorder can barely pick it up, but it appears to be emanating from within these corridors, however with these rock walls causing interference I am unable to get a precise location.

Taryn Castell -> @ Great. Nesting. ::She licked her lips and studied the corridor they were walking through, frowning at the rock.:: I don't hear anything. Is it showing on sensors? ::She'd stopped looking at hers when they'd started bouncing.:: Ah...

Tandaris Admiran -> @ The frequency may be the proximate cause of the interference—if it resonates with minerals in the rock, it could be creating the interference effect.

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Lorraine> ::grabs hold of his arm, whirling him toward her, just outside the door to ops::

Tandaris Admiran -> @::takes out his tricorder and begins poking at it:: If that’s the case, I may be able to compensate partially.

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Nods.:: Sounds plausible.

Cptn Swain -> It appeared to be a power surge. ::Frowns:: I assuming you think I should have jerked them back up here?

T'Prehl -> @::nods at Tandaris:: Yes, that is a most logical cause.

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: wonders if the rock has significant magnesite minerals

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Lorraine> Mal -- I'm serious. You can't just barge into Operations and start telling the chief of operations how to run his station. We're all going to have to work together here after this situation is settled, and it's a *lot* easier when they actually tolerate us instead of actively dislike us.

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The rock has fairly low densities of Magnesite.

Tandaris Admiran -> @ It looks like the corridor forks here, with each fork leading towards a dedicated lab.

Rue Wydown -> Aye. There's a fine line between taking risk and purposely putting one in harms way. An explosion on an suspiciously empty ship.......anyone else not see the problem here?

Tandaris Admiran -> @ Then there are exits at the end of each lab that rejoin the main corridor. We could split up, investigate both labs, and meet up on the other side.

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: these rocks are interfering the tricorder scans....

Maryse Dubois -> @ Splitting up seems like a really bad idea. We can't stay in contact with each other.

Rue Wydown -> Emphasis on *empty* there.

Cptn Swain -> ::Sighs:: I saw a problem with it, but I also didn't see any more additional danger than they're already in, not until we know the cause of the explosion anyway.

Tandaris Admiran -> @ We’ll be one room away. We’ll get through this faster. ::pointed look:: You don’t want to stay down here longer than we have to, right?

Karl A. Schultz -> @:: moves along with the team

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Frowns, not liking it, but he's right.:: Ok...

Rue Wydown -> That's the problem. We don't know the cause. And yet you let our crew continue to gallivant around. Someone spike your tea, mate?

T'Prehl -> @ ::is neutral to either way, but tallies up the away team members to paths::

Tandaris Admiran -> @ OK. T'Prehl, you take Dr. Castell and head to the left lab. Schultz and Dubois are with me.

Tandaris Admiran -> ((Cardboard Mesner can tag along with T’Prehl and provide fire support if necessary, or flimsy barrier protection.))

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> ::rubs his face with his hand, then stands with his hands on his hips as he regards his former partner:: I *know* that, Anna -- *I* *know*. But it seems like that crew can't seem to catch a break! ::sighs:: First there was the cowboy collie from outer space, and now we have amateur hour. That we can't get clear information to them only makes the situation worse.

Cptn Swain -> ::He cast a glance to Wydown. He was, by most standards, a fairly easy going Captain, but there was a point.:: Well, when this is over, you'll be free to note your objection in the log, Commander.

T'Prehl -> @::Nods:: Very well. ::starts heading towards the left lab::

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: nods to Tandaris

Taryn Castell -> @ ::She nodded, glancing at the Vulcan. It made sense.:: And we get security. ::Smirks at Charlotte.::

Tandaris Admiran -> @::leads his squad toward the right lab::

Rue Wydown -> You betcha banana I will. ::scowling and heading back to the lift, muttering in her native language under her breath::

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Following after Tandy.::

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> The end result is that I have an agent needlessly in harm's way.

Cptn Swain -> Commander...

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: follows Tandaris to the right lab

T'Prehl -> @::Leading the team into the left lab, and a cautious approach::

Rue Wydown -> ::deep breath before turning:: Yes, Captain?

Tandaris Admiran -> @::opens the door to the lab and looks in, but seeing no signs of movement, slowly enters and stays close to the wall:: So far so good.

Cptn Swain -> Any progress with the work on the samples from the Augustine?

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Lorraine> An agent you -- ::stops, sighing:: Just make sure you don't let *personal* feelings get in the way of doing your job.

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Staying by the wall as well.:: Please don't say that.

Rue Wydown -> Nothing substantial to report. I'm going back down to review their progress now.

Charlotte Matsumura -> @ ::with T'Prehl, bringing up the rear::

Taryn Castell -> @ ::Follows T'Prehl, being just as cautious. She didn't like rushing into possible situations where she could be eaten by incubating alien babies.::

Tandaris Admiran -> @::watches as the lights in the lab automatically come on, revealing its full contents::

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: immediately enters after Tandaris

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The "labs" are in a very ... dishelved state. There are dozens of husks laying around in each, with a sort of sticky mucus on some of them. They're in even stranger shapes than ones on the surface.

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> ::muscle ticks in his jaw:: Noted, Commander. Any other advice before meeting with the chief?

T'Prehl -> @::looks at her tricorder, then enters the lab. Like the left lab, the lights automatically flicker on. Takes a look around::

Cptn Swain -> ::Nods:: Keep me informed.

T'Prehl -> Like the right lab*

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Frowns.:: Lovely...

T'Prehl -> @Fascinating.

Rue Wydown -> Aye, sir. ::steps into the waiting lift::

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Lorraine> ::smirks:: If he doesn't listen, just breathe on him -- that Chinese dish you had for lunch had enough garlic to sink a fleet.

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: starts to scan with the tricorder

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> ::shakes his head:: ::says nothing as he turns and heads into ops::

Tandaris Admiran -> @ Familiar … yet not.

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Lorraine> ::smirking still, falls into step behind him::

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Notices the mucus on some of the husks. Refuses to touch them.:: Shapes are a little different. Then there's that mucus.

Charlotte Matsumura -> @ Hardly the word I'd use.

Tandaris Admiran -> @::approaches the closest table, with several mucus-covered husks::

T'Prehl -> @::takes a vial from her kit, and scoops in a small sample of the mucus for analysis later::

Charlotte Matsumura -> @ ::hair on the back of her neck standing on end::

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: approaches a table with a husk

Maryse Dubois -> @ Don't touch them.

Charlotte Matsumura -> @ ::though her environmental suit has been keeping the temperature around her constant::

Tandaris Admiran -> @::looks to Schultz for his reaction:: This is your first time seeing one of this in the … exoskeleton, hmm? What do you think?

Rue Wydown -> If he gets the bloody away team blown up, I am so retiring. ::pinches the bridge of her nose::

T'Prehl -> @I would surmise its a protective film, in-between the exoskeleton and the creature inside it.

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The scans show similarities to the ones on the upper levels and also the ones on the Augustine, though they all seem to have less reflective structures than those on the Augustine.

Taryn Castell -> @ ::Begins to scan the room, exploring, trying to get a feel for the shapes.:: Why the difference in shape, you think? A different species?

Tandaris Admiran -> @ So I wonder if these are here at the Dominion’s behest or some sort of infestation that overran the base….

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::At the Center Console, monitoring a transport ship docking::

Karl A. Schultz -> :: should definitely take some samples of the husk for further analysis

Tandaris Admiran -> @ It looks like they were doing some experiments here, but it’s … disorganized.

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> ::spotting Sprint, heads in his direction::

Rue Wydown -> ::flitting back into the science lab to check on their progress::

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Nods.:: Definitely not my ideal style of conducting experiments.

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> Commander Sprint?

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> The mucus appears to be densely packed in DNA, and also slightly acidic.

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::Looks over:: Ah, Can I help you?

T'Prehl -> @Could be a different subspecies, or even type. For example, solider and worker ants on Earth. Both of the same species, but different in appearance due to their different functions. However, that is just a thought as my knowledge on these creatures are limited

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::Motions for one of his assistants to take over babying the transport in::

Karl A. Schultz -> @ considering the state of the lab,,,, lab equipment wouldn't work here... besides not Federation equipment

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> Do you have a moment? I've a...situation...that needs station attention.

Tandaris Admiran -> @::still fiddling with his tricorder, trying to get past the dampening field, while he lets the biology experts look into this::

T'Prehl -> @::She looked at her portable analysis unit:: I'm getting a DNA sample in the mucus. Densely packed in and slightly acidic. A defense perhaps?

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::Nods: Of course. ::Knowing Alexander wouldn't bother him if it weren't important::

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::Stands and motions him over to a more private part of the Operations Center::

Rue Wydown -> ::sitting down at the table:: So have we gotten the data analysis from the computer?

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Uses her kit to carefully get a few samples, then packs up.::

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> ::following Sprint, jaw still taut, the only exterior sign of tension::

Karl A. Schultz -> :: puts on a glove and takes a mucus sample

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Lorraine> ::following along to provide moral support and to make sure that he doesn't screw this up too bad.

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::Calm as usual, though he had a Bad Feeling about this:: What is the problem?

T'Prehl -> @But, the exoskeleton is very similar to the ones on the Augustine. They are mostly likely of the same species, and perhaps even the same colony

Tandaris Admiran -> @::discreetly knocks his tricorder against a (clean) surface, then jiggles a wiggly bit in the back of the casing::

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> ::doesn't waste time with small talk:: You're aware Excalibur has headed out to investigate the disappearance of the Augustine?

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> In response to Tandaris, there is a slight, high pitched chittering sound.

Charlotte Matsumura -> @ Yes... On a deserted ship and a disheveled, deserted station.

Charlotte Matsumura -> @ I feel oh so safe.

Charlotte Matsumura -> @ ::sighs::

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Stops.::

Tandaris Admiran -> @::Maryse:: Sorry, did you just chitter?

Rue Wydown -> Saxon> Nothing yet, ma'am. Computer is still crunching the numbers as we speak. And can I be frank? Smith won't stop playing with one of the samples.

Maryse Dubois -> @ You hear that too?

Charlotte Matsumura -> @ ::realizing now why it was quarantined by the "special" unit::

Tandaris Admiran -> @ Yes, that’s why I asked. I don’t speak that dialect though.

Rue Wydown -> Smith>What? What? What?

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::Nods:: Yes. We had lost contact with the Augustine.

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: stops for moment due to hearing slightly high pitched sound

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Staying calm.:: We have some samples. We should return to the others...

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> According to our information, the Augustine has been discovered, all hands considered lost, hovering above a deserted Dominion outpost.

Karl A. Schultz -> @ yes... what's that sound?

Taryn Castell -> @ ::Inspecting one of the empty shells, she removed her cutter and began to excise a small portion for sampling.::

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::Blinks::

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> It would appear, sir, you know a good deal about this more than I do.

Rue Wydown -> Saxon>Yes, he keeps licking it.

Tandaris Admiran -> @::Maryse:: Indeed. Both of you take one last look around in case we missed anything.

Rue Wydown -> Smith>Well, that's how I can tell it's alien.

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Nods, taking one last look around before moving to the door.::

Tandaris Admiran -> @::glances back at the mucus-covered husks:: I know we were having trouble getting a cellular analysis off the ones we found on the Augustine….

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: gets out a biological analyzer to analyze the mucus

Rue Wydown -> Saxon>Oh grow up you.

Tandaris Admiran -> @ Any idea whether the mucus coating is actually from these creatures?

T'Prehl -> @::looks around the rest of the lab, looking for anything else of significance::

Tandaris Admiran -> @ Or is it possible something … else … coated them?

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> The...information exchange is something of interest to my group.

Maryse Dubois -> @ Without useful scans, all we can do is guess.

Rue Wydown -> Smith>You're Mister Thick Thick Thickity Thick Face from Thicktown, Thickania. And so's your dad.

Karl A. Schultz -> @ :: I am analyzing right now..

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> Right.

Tandaris Admiran -> @::Schultz:: Good. ::gives the lab one, last, lonely look:: Because somehow I don’t think these are the only science experiments the Dominion would be working on.

Tandaris Admiran -> @::gestures to Maryse:: Let’s find the others.

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> It's rather strange though, I would have thought that I would have gotten something from the Excalibur by now anyway. Captain Swain tends to check in fairly regularly... well more so than his predecessor anyway.

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> The station is one that has been noted as off-limits for all personnel.

Maryse Dubois -> @ ::Nods, stepping out of the lab.::

Karl A. Schultz -> @ I should compare my notes with what T'Prehl have found

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::Lifts a brow:: Did Swain know that?

T'Prehl -> @::walks around the lab, not finding much except for more mucus filled husks::

Karl A. Schultz -> since there are two labs... it is logical to assume that each lab is running a different experiment

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> He would have, if their own information request had not been stonewalled

Tandaris Admiran -> @::leads his squad out into the corridor where the two labs connect up::

Cptn Swain -> ACTION> Like the ones before, the structures of the husks are very tightly formed. Though these seem to be able to be scanned better. There seems to be some sort of mutagenic nature to it though.

Taryn Castell -> @ Are you getting any other scans on the frequency the sensors picked up earlier? Is it coming from here?

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> Stonewalled? By who?

Tandaris Admiran -> @::looks down at his tricorder:: Still can’t get past this dampening field. Hmm.

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> Near as I can figure? Headquarters.

Karl A. Schultz -> @ It must be minerals in the walls or something

Charlotte Matsumura -> # Alexander> ...but we can discuss *that* nugget later.

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::Frowns:: This can't end well.

T'Prehl -> @ I am noticing that these husks seem to be able to be better scanned, but I do not think that the interference or audio frequency is sourced here.

Cptn Swain -> #Sprint> ::Nods:: So what did you have in mind?

Tandaris Admiran -> @ Well, I’ve managed to isolate the frequency we picked up earlier, and I’m detecting the source—or rather, sources.

Tandaris Admiran -> @ I’m also detecting a Doppler shift.

Cptn Swain -> PAUSE SIM

Cptn Swain -> PAUSE SIM

T'Prehl -> ::Paused::

Fae -> :: paused ::

Maryse Dubois -> ::paused::

Karl A. Schultz -> : paused :

Cptn Swain -> Great stuff

Rue Wydown -> Any questions guys?

Tandaris Admiran -> Yes, my abandoned Dominion base has a horrible pest invasion.

Cptn Swain -> lol

Tandaris Admiran -> How do I get rid of it?

Cptn Swain -> Raid

Cptn Swain -> I hope someone brought a can.

Cptn Swain -> I mean....

Cptn Swain -> Sorry, one second on the TBS

Cptn Swain -> Okies. TBS will be roughly 10-20 minutes.

Cptn Swain -> Just enough time for you all to find more trouble.

Cptn Swain -> I mean....

T'Prehl -> Sweet

Fae -> RAID!

Rue Wydown -> Okay guys, I'll see you all next week :)
