Witness For The Defence

Assistant Medical Officer's Log

Victor got out of the shower. He was drying off and looking at the mirror when he again noticed the dark bruise on his right cheek.

“Damn” he muttered to himself. He’d been on the holodeck the day before with Andrews and had got whacked hard in the face during the program. Shawn joked about it in a friendly fashion saying that Victor must be getting old already but Images knew it was because his game was off. The reason for this was the conversation he’d had with Mogg. When Victor had left Mogg’s quarters there was such a burning hate in Mogg’s eyes, so much anger. The worst thing about it for Victor had been that his intention when he had gone to visit Mogg was to cheer him up. He’d since tried to apologise but had only met deaf ears. Victor dressed into his uniform and while fitting on his pip he spoke.

“Computer, are there any notices for me?

“You have a message from Lieutenant Muon Quark”, the computer answered.

“Curious. Can you read it out to me?”

After he heard the confirmation beep, the computer read it out the message in its monotonous voice.

“Dr. Images,

I have been assigned as defense counsel for Ensign Mogg pertaining to the incident that occured on the CT on stardate 0308.01.  Ens Mogg has informed me that earlier in the week he refused to undergo a psych evaluation.  He has since changed his mind and would be willing to undergo the evaluation.  You will also be required to give testimony at the court martial as to the results.  Please schedule the evaluation and let me know when it is.

Thank you,

Lieutenant Muon Quark”

Silence followed as Victor considered how to answer. He sat down before speaking again.

“Computer, dictate the following message and send it to Lieutenant Muon Quark.”

The Computer beeped again as it began recording.

“Dear Lieutenant Quark,

I would be happy to help you and Ensign Mogg to the best of my ability although I do recall him telling me “Get out of my quarters” the last time I tried. I will schedule a session with Ensign Mogg as soon as possible so I can give him this psych test and perhaps find out what psychological problems propelled him to act the way he did.

Yours Sincerely

Doctor Victor Images

Victor grumbled to himself as he put on his shoes. How irritating was this? First being told to sod off then being asked back. “Well”, Victor thought to himself, “At least I think this means he’s accepted my apology”. He stood up and walked out of his quarters and as he made his way to sickbay he considered what he would have to do, inform Dr. Jones of a shift needing to be changed due to the hearing’s time, finish his daily jobs and then study as much Ferengi psychology as possible before the psyche evaluation. Victor grinned to himself, people already feared sickbay enough, what would happen if he became the station’s unofficial shrink?
