Le Fangs!
Personal Log 2260.53

Captains Personal Log Stardate 2260.53, Ashton Calestorm recording...

An older member of the crew, initially thought to have passed of natural causes, suffered a brutal death. Petty Officer Jason Paxton had defensive wounds and bruising on his forearms and knuckles, puncture wounds on his neck that appear to be from fangs, and bruising on his chest.

…blood and skin were found under his fingernails; the DNA trace led to Ensign Rose Black, a co-worker of Paxton and the shift lead for the Historical Records department. Two of our security officers were sent to question her…and things did not go well…

Ensign Elrod reported that Black was initially disoriented and then viciously attacked both guards, ripping the jugular from one with her teeth in seconds and wounding the other. Elrod was forced to take her out with a point blank phaser shot to the head.

The surviving Security officer seems to have contracted some sort of virus: high fever, disorientation. According to my Chief Medical Officer, Elrod exhibits an odd shape to her incisor fangs, for a human. The pigmentation in her eyes is changing as well, to a much lighter shade than her normal coloring.

Rumors are beginning to fly among my crew, crazy stuff about vampires. Right. And I'm sure next someone will be trying to tell me that the Caitians are actually were-cats...ah, hell. Medical and Science continue to work on the viral issue, the vampirism - or whatever it is - but we currently have no explanation. Re-breather masks are recommended in case this thing goes airborne.

Should the situation go completely beyond our control, I will transmit an emergency signal to the nearest Starfleet bio-hazard vessel. The border patrol offices on New Topeka have been informed of our situation and remain on standby.

In the meantime, I err on the side of caution…I've ordered a full stop. We are at general quarters. Security and MARDET patrols have been given express orders to defend themselves from any perceived threats.

End recording...
