I need some LCARS map help. Anyone with Graphic Skills in the fleet?

Dear STSF,

I have found myself in need of a rather simple graphic. However Graphics or for that matter any thing "artist" I lack the skill to create. So I come to all with a humble request,

Does anyone in the fleet have the ability to create an Okudagram, where it is simply a blank space chart. That is what I wish to do, is to help map objects in the Qob-Tranquility Universe.

I can download fonts, I have done that before. But I lack the skill to create an LCARS frame, and just an empty grid in the middle. Essentially picture a framed chalkboard. The frame looks Trekish..where the inside is blank black space. Inside the Qob's small corner of the universe can be put together.

This is a project I am interested in doing to help give a sense of "Orientation" for the sim I participate in.

I appreciate any help in this matter given the talent we do have in this forum.

Thank You,

I did a search on Google Image and found several well-known LCARS layouts. Some have graphics in them, some don't. Were you thinking of something like Star Trek Starcharts? That's where the top and bottom have the (] [...] [) borders on them with a white grid on black background. Let me know.

Star Trek StarCharts is one of the many Star Trek Reference Books I have. It is the only one that focuses on Star Trek Cartography. And while the Quadrant maps give the most detail, it is indeed those LCARS borders [...] that I feel are needed but I dont have graphics capability to generate. In Star Trek StarCharts, pages 48-9 which feature the Dominion War are ideally what I am trying for..but in a simpler form. Just the Orange/Purple framing typical of Trek maps (Okudagrams). The interior would be black with orange trace grids...ideally without numbers since the area of Space "Qob" sims in is not all that big due to the storyline limits. So yes any help would be appreciated greatly!!

Make sure you keep StarCharts! It's a rare find now and the new/used prices are absolutely crazy.

Star Trek Reference Books are a premium these days. I think Pocket Books may be dumping the Star Trek Franchise. This is a bit of speculation on my part from various tid bits of information. The only thing I buy now in terms of Star Trek publishing is the Ships of the Line Calendar. The Novels have been too inconsistent and conflicting for me to approach. However Starships from Novels have made it to the Calendar which is cool. The Aventine, and hopefully someday the Titan!

Star Trek Star Charts gives me my only reference point for the Qob universe...one star system. Hence the need to some creative mapping!

I have seen people literally build from scratch "okudagram" frames using flash, or photoshop..of course my limitation to those who have simmed with me is my ability to use programs or have them. I am hoping Windows 7 Paint can create an "Okudagram" that's all I have at the moment. and I do not have ample resources nor the gifted mind to purchase anything like those.

*Okay guilty as charged as a repost, but again any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

If you wish to try your hand at designing your Okudagrams, both Paint.net and GIMP are freeware programs, similar to Photoshop and much more powerful than MSPaint. GIMP is more along the lines of Photoshop/Illustrator than Paint.net, but both allow you to build with layers, etc.
