The Manticore is at the secret Federation base on Distare-27

and has just completed installation of a new super weapon

that can protect what is left of humanity from its mysterious

enemy, if they decide to return. The weapon is a dangerous

"matter compactor" that will affect any artificial or enhanced

material and remove all the "spaces" inside the atomic

structure, thus compressing the matter to an inert, compact mass.
