The inevitable... A log by Mitar Precip

To: Admiral Atragon-9, Commanding Officer USS Manticore

CC: Captain Sovak XO USS Manticore, Dr. Farrington 2nd Officer USS Manticore

From : Commander Mitar Precip

Subject: Immediate Resignation of Tactical and Chief of Security duties of Manticore

Admiral Atragon,

This should of been sent to you three days ago after I left the bridge. I made the mistake of believing three days of thought might clear my mind of the obvious. Since the obvious does not clear, this letter should of been presented to you immediately despite the ongoing crisis.

Over the years it has been become quite clear to me now that I "process" or "think" things differently than yourself and the command staff of the Manticore. While this is to a certain extent encouraged on starships; there are ways to express one's thoughts on decisions being made by the command staff during a crisis in a proper manner. Clearly unlike most officers as they mature through the ranks, I have not learned to contain my thoughts or opinions properly.

The bridge is not the place for a subordinate officer to question a senior officer's decision making processes or the decision itself. This leads to disharmony on the bridge which is detrimental to the ship's operations.

It is quite clear to me, that Yourself, Captain Sovak and Commander Farrington and the rest of the bridge crew of the Manticore are in sync with each other despite what calamities you have faced. I have time and time again brought disharmony, to a fine tuned bridge crew and now having seen the "fire" in your eyes Admiral at my latest actions during this latest crisis. It is indeed my time to leave the bridge for good.

Hence I offer my immediate resignation of bridge duties on the Manticore. This would include my position as Chief of Security in addition to Tactical Officer of this vessel. This action I feel is the only way to keep the bridge of Manticore functioning in an efficient manner during these dire times.

Since I have not been on duty for three days, (again inexcusably) I assume the Federation has dispatched Starfleet to fulfill one of it's primary duties; Self Defense and disaster recovery operations of a member world. I am unaware if any other worlds have come under attack, or if any further fleet engagements have taken place within the Federation. Since I am presuming we are in state of war, I of course am willing to defend the Federation despite my resignation. I do know how to operate a phaser rifle, and if this ship is attacked I will readily volunteer for her defense. Until that time comes, which hopefully will not; I will remain clear of all ship operations having resigned my post and will await reassignment. I do realize in Covert Operations, this can be difficult and can take time. But that is my punishment to accept.

Admiral, I do respect you as a Commanding Officer and wish you the best of luck in this crisis and any more to come.

Manticore is a fine ship and a stellar crew and am honored to have served with her.

Mitar Precip
