Lerak trPexil

Up on the Roof

Up on the Roof

Lerak tr'Pexil, acting Daise'Engineer of the RES Talon had a great deal on his mind. The air blew by softly as he lay flat on the roof of his parents home. He'd been up there for some time now. The stars and the tinge of deep green filled the night sky. No clouds. Nothing to disturb their passing. If he kept his breathing light he could hear the crash of the waves off in the distance.

Days passed since he last took a break. Other than sleep repairs had him on the go constantly. Duties went from a few larger repairs to many smaller ones. Replicators, recycling systems and temperature controls all over the Talon. But now, for a few moments, his time was his own.

Lerak took a deep breath. He let the Talon's problems fade into the distance. However his fellow crew mates were not so easy to put aside. While making repairs he thought he'd need to clear his head of all these trouble-causing crew.

"First to his fellow engineer t'Ditsy. Why the elements would she bring a tray of refreshments to my punishment? I have to wonder if those diagnostics ever got completed that day. I believe she meant well, but really?" tr'Pexil thoughts turned sour. "Why had she struck a nerve with me? I have never backhanded anyone, even if I thought it was a good idea. Now I'm pretty sure I've lost a friend in my own department. Sure we made up, but I bet she'll not forget."

"t'Aehjae. "My association with her is a bit complicated. For years I hardly ever spoke to her. Then that one time I invited her to my folks place. What the...was I thinking. I kissed her. Ahhh! Now my clumsy feet started a chain reaction painting her in orange. I think she's more upset with the near escape of that prisoner. Well, perhaps not, as she had to present him in front of N'Dak. The flight deck crew told me of paint trail they cleaned."

"Ah N'Dak. The peeping tr'Tom of the Talon. I've been on the Talon a long time. Never over the years have I suspected my correspondence being read. So much for encryption. Must be a back door in the computer system I don't know about. Strangely the message to t'Rexan still got out. Why would someone scanning messages flag mine as inappropriate, but still let the message out? No matter what I feel I still follow his orders and foster no envy for his responsibilities."

"Now to the security lackey t'Shia. I first met her on that element forsaken planet. She was pleasant and competent. Even though I was not her commanding officer she helped me with tasks security related and not. I even planed to show her around the ship, the secret passageways to make internal security matters easier to navigate. But no, she had to go paranoid believing I was helping the enemy. Holding me there only placed the ship in greater danger. Well, not that much. Engineering could handle my absence. Demi, so young and so eager…and so hating me now. I fear her animosity toward me will remain for a long time."

"And now Laehval. She..." tr'Pexil stopped in mid-sentence. A t'Liss chirp broke all of this thoughts. The chirp was followed by another of his engineers voices.

"Daise, pardon the inturruption, but we need your help in cloak control."

"On my way," tr'Pexil said with an inaudible sigh. He closed the channel. He had been on his parent's roof for sometime. He felt his tired body struggle to get up.

"Etrehh, end simulation." It obeyed his commmand. The homeworld disappear beneath his feet and over his head. Only the wall panels and holographic structures remained. His skills were needed elsewhere.

Even more interesting how "some" of those ordered to retraining get away with slipping into the Holodeck for leisure time when the rest of us are working hard.

Tisk, Tisk.

This was a little before the departure, I should have mentioned that under the title. And who says Pexil was not working hard? The HIC needs maintenance too. What if the safeties flicked off during a dheno training exercise?
