Why Was Time Such A Struggle?

A Joint Log by Khre'Riov L'haiy ira-Rex t'Vatrix and Daise'Khre'Riov Var'lon tr'Vatrix

It had seemed like days since Nemeria had assisted her down to the medical bay of the RES Azgalor, when in reality, it had been but a scant seven hours. Hours that seemed to drag on and on, getting slower by the siuren with each contraction or pain that jolted up her spine. Instinct told her it was time to begin pushing, time to let her womb push the child out into the world, yet she knew that she could na, na just yet. She had to hold on for as long as she could, she had to do it for him, she would na disappoint him yet again by delivering before he arrived. She knew how much he wanted to be there, to see his son born, and ultimately know, that it was indeed, his son.

The meanak’s had tried to give her medications to ease the pains, to make the delivery go all the easier; however, those same pain relievers would also relax the abdominal muscles she was fighting so hard to control. Letting those muscles relax, would ultimately let the child slip out into the world before she was ready to let him.

“Llhei, it will be soon, there is na much au can do to stop this, the process has begun, and he’s been slowly moving down into the birth channel,” the Daise Maenak told her. “Au have already begun to efface, and a bit of the child’s crown has already begun to show. If au continue to fight it, au will only stress auself, and then in turn, possibly the child.”

“I do na care about myself at the siuren, and I know au will let me know long before I do anything to endanger with the child’s health, but I want Var’lon fahd. I need him fahd, and I know that he wants to be fahd as well,” she barely choked out the last as a strong contraction caused her to grit her teeth while saying so. “Ugggh! I do pray to the Elements, that he does na take much longer though, I am na sure how many more of those, that I will be able to fight off,” she continued.

“Au do know that it’s ok to scream if au feel the need,” Maenak t’Greiel commented. “It’s a normal response, au do na have to fight it off.” She gestured around the room, “it’s na like these maenakhen have na seen a child born before. And au, I see hrrau au records, that au have done this once before. So au should know that..”

“Maenak, Galae officers are taught to endure pain. Yelling out hrrau a battle situation could get an entire patrol yy’a if io was na careful. Na, I may by the end have to make some sort of utterance, but I will na this early on, like some weak minded veruul.”

t’Greiel just shook her head at the woman’s stubbornness and leaned over to whisper, “I have dealt with au command officers before, so na give me the ‘na wanting to look weak in front of au crew speech’, because your crew isn’t fahd. I’ll lay wager that au will break au silence long before the child reaches the final stage.”

“I will take au wager,” L’haiy stated back in a very strained voice. She would na only hold on for Var’lon, but to show this maenakhen what Galae officers truly were made of. Now, if she really could hold on, as it was becoming increasingly difficult to manage fighting off the constant contractions pulling at her abdomen and her back.

The maenak walked away, grinning while knowing that she had at least given the woman a diversion, something else to keep her mind on and perhaps help her in her attempt to hold out longer. If it were up to her however, she’d just give the woman the hypo, and deliver the child. However, due to ‘who’ the woman on the bed was, and ‘who the woman’s bondmate’ was that they were racing to meet, she felt it best for her career, to try and honor their wishes. She had just gotten this assignment, she’d hate to be transferred to something a bit less, comfortable, like a listening post on the Outmarches.

L’haiy turned back towards Nemeria, “Au did contact Teronix, did au na? Have au gotten a response? Any clue as to how much longer they will be.”

“Ternoix did reply, Llhei. They noted that they are on the way and are but a few hours out. The Hru’hfirh sends word to stay strong, he will be with au shortly,” Nemeria reassured her, but na wanting to tell her that Teronix had met it’s speed limitation, and had to throttle back for a short while so as na to destroy her AQS, it would add about 2-3 hours to the journey. “Soon, but he also sent word that he will do his best, but if it must come before he arrives, then it is the fate of the Elements.” Nemeria watched the woman continue to struggle, and knew that time was na on her side, but if she could just hold a bit longer......

*****************************************************************************

Meanwhile, on the Teronix, the man in charge stalked the corridors, the engineering bay and oira all the while cursing the Elements for this delay. “Soon Rekkhai,” was the authen he kept hearing, yet it was na the io that he wished to hear; but ”Ie, Rekkhai,” was. So close, he was so close and yet now, they had to slow. Frustrated, but na wanting to appear so, nor to show any ill-will to his crew, he went to the center of the oira, sat in the center command chair, and awaited word that they could engage the AQS back to full power.

“Rekkhai, we now have full power restored and, “ the officer was cut off immediatley.

“Resume course at full speed at once,” tr’Vatrix ordered, as he felt the ship jump to life beneath his feet. Why was time always such a struggle?
