Taking Flight- Part 1

"Taking Flight" -- Part One

Ensign Trichon Light & Ensign (Doctor) Ruca N'Etani

Stardate 0308.016

--------------------------------------

Trichon had finally decided to go to sickbay.  The headaches had not gotten any better after they had left Lodi.  He was still also having trouble sleeping. He walked into sickbay and looked around for a doctor.

Ruca ignored the swish of the Sickbay doors behind her, as she input her reports for the day into the medical computer. Her delicate fingers grazed the panel as she spoke without turning around, "Can I help you with anything?"

"Yes I have been having these awful headaches since we left the Lodi Colony, and I thought it might have something...." Trichon paused for a second and realized that it was Ruca that was there. It had startled him, but in a good way.

Ruca blinked. She'd recognized the voice and turned around immediately, "Mister

Light..  not feeling up to par?" She smiled ever-so-lightly, ".. maybe I can help you with that.."

"I hope so..." Trichon stammered a bit, "It will be nice to get a good nights sleep for a change."

She nodded, sleep had been elusive to her as well, "I agree.. come on over here and have a seat. Let me see if I can soothe your pain." Ruca gestured to the nearest biobed, then she grabbed her kit and placed it to the side where she could easily reach it's tools.

Trichon sat on the biobed and glanced around. He decided to try and lighten the mood with some small talk, "So are you the only one in sickbay right now?"

Ruca shook her head, "There are a few nurses in the back, tending to some inventory. But I am the only doctor. Why, would you prefer someone else to see to your ailment?" She smiled at him just slightly, as she reached for her tricorder and entered in a few codes.

"No, not at all.  It's just that I have actually been meaning to get a hold of you."

Ruca started scanning him, ".. really? I've been meaning to do the same thing.." she paused, ".. I mean, to get a hold of you."

Trichon looked at Ruca.  "Really what a coincidence ..huh."

"Yes.. I suppose it is. " She smiled a real genuine smile, which was sometimes difficult to get from her, but it quickly disappeared as she continued her scans, ".. what did you want ..?"

Trichon noticed Ruca smiling, "Well I seem to remember offering to give you some shuttling lessons when we got back from the Lodi colony.  And well I was wanting to know if you still were interested?"

She blinked her eyes once, and looked up at him. He remembered that? Their conversation? Ruca was sure her cheeks gave away her surprise at that, ".. I, Yes, .. yes, I'm still interested. Oh.. and your scans are fine. I'm just going to give you a little something for it.."

Trichon grinned.  "Good.  I have some great holodeck programs that I wrote for myself to keep in practice."

She moved away to prepare the hypospray, but looked over her shoulder at him, "That sounds wonderful.. though, I must warn you.. I'm a terrible pilot. Probably the worse you've ever seen.." She chuckled a bit, more in embarrassment than anything else.

"Ahhh you cant be that bad.  Now I had a friend at the academy who was awful.  I tried helping him out on many occasions.  He was so bad they would not even let him in the simulators after a while."  Trichon smiled, "Don't worry after a few lessons you'll be

flying rings around me."

She walked back to him, the hypo in hand, and laughed a little, "I am glad you have such confidence." She gently touched his neck, nudging him to tilt it, ".. let me inject this and you'll feel better in no time."

Trichon tilted his neck and heard the hypo hiss.  "I hope so. These headaches have been murder."

Ruca rubbed the spot where she injected in her usual gentle bedside manner, then put the hypo aside, "There have been others complaining about it too.. but hopefully that

will help?" She smiled at him lightly and began to pack up her tools to put away.

"Hopefully.  I think most of it has to do with that sewer bath I took on the colony.  Don't even know who they got to haul me to a shuttle after I got knocked out."  Trichon hopped off the biobed and turned to face Ruca. "So do I get a clean bill of health doc?"

She placed her tools away and then faced him, "Yes, you are fine .. in fact ..you are definitely looking better than you did when you first got here.  You clean up well.. "

"Why thank you doc.  I do try to look my best."

Ruca murmured, "No need to try.. really." She cleared her throat, and pressed a lock of hair behind her ear, ".. when did you want to do these lessons?"

Trichon thought he heard Ruca say something under her breath. "Umm whenever you want I get off duty around 17:00 today.  I don't have any plans then."

"I get off around the same time.. I'd like to go freshen up first, but perhaps..17:30? And maybe get a bite to eat afterwards?" She laughed a little, ".. that is, if you can stomach food after I fly you around.."

Trichon laughed "Sounds great and don't worry I think my appetite is going to be fine.  So 17:30 then?"

"Yes.. I'll see you then.." She clasped her hands behind her back, twisting her right foot inward a bit, nodding at him.

"All right I will see you later today then." Trichon turned and headed for the door of sickbay.  he turned around one last time and smiled at Ruca before he walked out. Ruca watched him leave .. catching his bright smile before he disappeared behind the doors. She couldn't wait. A friend. She could use a friend. And from the feeling deep down in her gut, she knew this was a friendship about to take flight...
