A Race Against Time

A joint log by Daise'Khre'Riov Var'lon tr'Vatrix and Khre'Riov L'haiy t'Vatrix

The Teronix sped home, as rapidly as the engineering staff felt it was safe to push the AQS, only taking an occasional reduction in speed to allow time for the system to compensate and na over stress the ship’s vital systems. It would be a scandal for the Teronix, the very pride of the fleet, to break down and have to be towed back home.

It’s commanding officer, Daise’Khre’Riov Var’lon tr’Vatrix, the very head of Galae himself, found himself nearly as stressed as the propulsion system as he worried about making it home in time for the birth of his first child. The crew understood the Daise’Khre’Riov’s priority for returning to the home world at such breakneck speed and na io would ever think to question his motives in this most personal of matters. They were all sworn and loyal to the man to the last. If this were important to him, then it was important to them as well. The crew of the Teronix took pride in their performance at Dumok’azen, and they put even more pride in the fact that they were able to serve on the Empire’s flag vessel . They would do anything for their leader and when word had passed through the crew that the birth of their commander’s son was imminent, man and woman alike swore they would get him home in time if they had to fight the Elements themselves to do so.

Var’lon had spent the last few days alone in his personal chambers, finalizing his reports on the events of the Dumak’azen affair and doing a lot of pacing. He felt it important to document as much as possible while it was fresh in his memory. The facts had to be double and triple checked to make sure that the reports from Governor Kavek tr’Valdrin; those from the N’Dak boy aboard the Talon; and those from his own fighter wing, were all in accordance. All the information had to match, and that the details of the situation involving some of their Othan ‘brothers’ needed to be well documented to present to the Senate. He was certain this would become a hornet’s nest of accusations that would soon be stirred up. All loose ends concerning their undercover agent had to be cleansed to an extent as well. Ie, she had been there; Ie, she was involved in exposing the actions of a suspected traitor; but ie, her methods could have been better, and she was paying for her poor decisions. Reports of the other traitors and their executions had been filed earlier and sent along to his offices at Galae Headquarters, however he wanted to get this report to the Praetor finished and sent. Once he was satisfied with his efforts, he signed off the report with is personal seal, and sent them off for review.

Now that he had completed that task, he could finally sit down and take care of the one matter that he had really wanted to take care of, and had been on his mind for weeks. He needed to sit and get a response out to L’haiy He needed to see how she was doing, and to let her know that he was safe. He needed to let her know how much he missed her and hated missing this important time with her.

Several messages had been received from her throughout the mission, but due to the communications blackout, he had na been able to respond. Var’lon knew she would understand the necessity being an officer herself. She would be concerned, but not angry. He half suspected that she would also punch him in the arm when he returned for keeping her up at night, restless with worry. He knew he would deserve it too.

Yes, he could have replied to her first after the mission had been completed and come back to the reports afterwards. However he wanted the work out of the way so he had nothing other to think about ‘but’ her. He would of course need to spend time giving her the right assurances that he would make it in time for the birth despite his own concerns if it would indeed be possible. He also needed to get an update as to her condition from the maenaks, knowing she would just push it off telling him she was ‘fine’ and ‘don’t worry about it’.

Pouring himself a strong drink, he swallowed it down quickly and poured a second. He’d most likely need something a bit stronger however if she had gotten word that his ship had taken so much damage. He intended to make sure she did not find out the details just yet or what happened with her own ship. While he would never publicly acknowledge it, he preferred to think of it as, her ‘former ship’. Bit by bit his plan to try to convince her that it was time to retire was taking shape. Perhaps it would be best to continue pressing that matter sometime ‘after’ the birth. Grinning to himself at the thought, he reached across the heavy wooden desk to toggle the communications panel when his t’Liss indicated an incoming message, disrupting his pattern of thought.

Frowning, he pulled his hand back from the terminal and instead reached up to tap his t’Liss as it began to buzz a second time, “This is tr’Vatrix, go ahead.”

“Rekkhai, au have an incoming transmission from Galae Headquarters. Do au wish me to download it to au terminal in au chambers, or do au wish to take this rhae the oira?” He recognized the voice of the Teronix’s communication officer, diligent in his work, and well trusted.

“Route it to me here in my chambers, “ tr’Vatrix replied.
