A Temps Job

This was only a temp job, ie? this better be only a temp job...

She made na claim that she would do a better job as Executive Officer than tr’Valdrin, N’Dak or any of the parade of officers that had held the job before her. The only promise she made was that she’d do a better job than the last time. And at least this time she knew better than to try to juggle the Daise’Maenak role at the same time. Na, she needed to focus her attention on the tasks at hand.

Na doubt this different approach from t’Ksa’s last attempt made many uncomfortable during the five monotonous weeks of travel to the repair station. Who wanted the XO breathing down io’s back, let alone io who was trained as an evil maenak? She was sure it made most of them nervous, even Etre tr’Paine whom she left in charge of medical in her absence. She paid na heed. They would adjust in time. Or if they did na, they would see relief when Talon returned to ch’Rihan. It was only a temporary appointment after all.

Unfortunately, she dreaded the return to ch’Rihan more than she’d let on. In her earlier fatigue, she’d sent a hastily worded correspondence to both her rinam, the party planner, and her intended bondmate requesting that they put any ceremonial plans on hold until she spoke to them in person. It had been written when she was still in distress and sent out without thinking clearly, so it was na surprise when she received na response from either party. When she realized what she’d done, she’d sent a follow up apology (although she did na retract her request to put plans on hold). Still na word. Most likely her likeness was being burned in effigies and she would have to make amends for the damage somehow. Or perhaps relocate to another star system.

At least she’d put more thought into her second attempt to contact the Khre’Riov. The note was brief but sincere, as she congratulated the woman on the impending arrival of her child. t’Ksa read it several times over to make sure the paranoid woman would na see anything untoward or insulting in the missive. But t’Ksa resigned herself to the fact that woman would most likely read something evil in the well wishes, and would either send another tersely written response or na speak to her at all. Whichever curse it would be, t’Ksa was willing to accept it as she’d all but given up on trying to figure the woman out.

The biggest roadblock that t’Ksa was struggling with was the letters to tr’Radiak and t’Mercu families expressing her condolences. She couldn’t seem to hit the right sentiment and it was driving her completely mad. She knew she still had some time to refine her correspondences, but she really wanted to get the tasks completed. Rushing it would na do the re officers justice. And yet, she was impatient.

It was that impatience that the crew had to suffer through as they traveled – and would continue to do so until Talon reached its final destination. At least then this temporary position would have run it's course.

Or so she........and the crew........hoped.
