Bermuda Triangle

We're taking a break from our regular plot for a special Halloween-themed Sim.

10.31.11 Mission Brief: the USS Bermuda Triangle (Saladin class), thought to be lost with all hands at the Battle of Vulcan, has reappeared along the Alpha Quadrant borders. No life signs, no response to hails. CDR Wesley has beamed over with an AT (SEC, MED, ENG) to investigate.

Ensign ‘Jumper’ Honor-Scar deftly manipulated the control stick with a paw, sending Tomcat Four into a gentle sloping run. “How are we doing on assignment time Shiran?”

Ensign Shiran, the blue skinned Andorian manning the EC* console, spoke into their private wireless. “We’re five by five. Hornets One, Two, and Four are establishing the primary patrol perimeter. Tomcat 6 is right with them.”

The Comanche Creek pilots were on high alert. They were operating pretty close to the RNZ*, and the command staff was being overly cautious with the deployed CAP*.

“Good. Let’s start the secondary run..." The felinoid winged the starfighter towards the USS Bermuda Triangle. "How's the Away Team doing?” Honor-Scar asked.

“Beamed over to the target ship. Scooter checked in with the Sheep Farm." The Andorian officer automatically used Commander Wesley’s call sign and the home ship designation per standard procedures.

Jumper whizzed the starfighter by the derelict vessel at an angle, giving Shiran a good opportunity for reconnaissance footage. The hull of the ship was scored and pitted in multiple locations, definite evidence of having been in battle. But there were no running lights flashing, no power readings, no indication of anything - the ship was just drifting.

He glanced at several smaller screens on his EC console, making notations on the incoming data. “You now, some of the Humans were spooked.”

“What’dya mean?”

“After the ACAG* briefed us on what was going on, few of them kept talking about ghost ships, zombie crews and such.”

The Caitian snorted gently, the purring evident over the helmet comm lines. “Eh. Probably just their cultural taboos and myths, letting their minds run away with them.”

“You have to admit it is a little strange. This ship is presumed lost with all hands at the Battle of Vulcan and then shows up months later on the outskirts of Federation territory?”

“Well, maybe they drifted this far?”

The tawny furred Cait had been one of the unfortunate few at the battle. Or was that one of the unfortunate few to survive the Battle of Vulcan? She had seen so many ships and crews get torn to pieces…blood fossilized from the cold of space floating in chunks…the wireless comms exploding with screams from the crews…

Her partner interrupted the darker thoughts. “There’s more – and you’ll like this Jumper. The Bermuda Triangle is an aquatic location on Earth where several ships and planes have gone missing, and no one could ever really explain why.”

“…you’re kidding, right?”

He chuckled. “Negative. I checked it out myself before we launched out; the Earth historical records show that the Bermuda incidents did happen, but were never really confirmed.”

“…and Starfleet thought it would be a good idea to name a ship the Bermuda Triangle? That’s just like the Caitian Naval Patrol calling a ship The Kzinti’s Revenge or something….”

She brought Tomcat Four back around for a second run past the so called ghost ship. A short silence passed between them before the Caitian and Andorian sighed and then said simultaneously, “Humans. Weird.”
