Were you, like me one of the tens of millions of unlucky souls in Ontario, Quebec and the Northeastern United States unexpectedly stuck in the dark?  If so, like the title states, what did you do in your day in the dark? I was treated to a nice view of the stars at night, that was nice.  :) Almost made up for the 45 minutes it took me to drive home in bumper to mumper taffic with no traffic lights or cops.  (I should count my blessings though, at least I wasn't on the highway).  :)

Oh yeah Seiban I forgot you were a Toronto dweller. I love being on a provincal power grid :) supplied by our own power hehehe. I'm happy that we didn't have that happen here for I was downtown and it was really packed down there and a hour bus ride would've become more like an hour and a half jk more like 3 I live in a small city but it is a city none the less and we have traffic.  :)

Hey there,

I think it's kind of funny. In Florida, we are used to losing power all the time. It doesn't matter, we're just used to it. We have supplies around every building that are used normally for Hurricanes, or when a massive storm kills the power. I just think it's interesting to watch what we see as such a common thing be such a "horrible problem."

We were out, but only intermittently and only for about 4 hours.  Power went out around 4:03 (at least, that's when the clock stopped), and by 8:30 we'd been on solidly enough that we felt secure turning the computers back on and reprogramming the TV channels.   :D

It wasn't a big deal when it hit; I remember thinking, 'drat, guess I should get off-line then' (laptop, battery power) and then grabbing a book and going to sit in the air conditioning.  No, that's not impossible... all you have to do is keep the door shut and the blinds drawn and an airconditioned room will stay cool for a few hours.   So I did.   :D    But hey, I go to school in California.  After you've studied for your finals by candlelight and written your term papers by hand and volunteered to be 'security' by the dorm door because the card reader's off while wrapped in a huge blanket because the heat's off, what's a couple hours without power in the middle of a summer afternoon, right?   Power failures will never be the same...  ::D:

ok...I wish I was in the blackout...but I wasn't (Im in Nebraska, USA).  But I had plans of what I would have done if I was in it, ask my friends so I'll tell you...

It happened right before nightfall...and there would be hardly any light pollution for literally miles!!!  I would have been outside wathcing the nightsky...(I don't have a telescope--yet).  It would be AMAZING!!!

Anyway that's what I would ahve done :D

Its funny when you look at it for the East even with that large chunk missing still brighter by far then the west. If you also notice the brightest areas of light or located on coastal areas or areas close to the water. Why that is is quite simple for in the olden day Water was the most import asset for life for without water you could not grow crops to feed yourselfs and in the pre-automative age shipping was practically impossible without water for ships and such. This has been a social lesson by Nemesis.  :)

Well with N.Y my town got lucky and still had power. But it ended up being that the rest of my family didn't so they all came to my house and played cards.
