"Cat's out of the Bag"

=/\=BEGIN LOG=/\=

Demore stared at the console, in awe at the letters ADMIRAL printed in front of his name. He smirked. “You know, that looks pretty good.” He shrugged, and logged off the console. He decided to try again.

“Computer, load database for Hewitt Demore.” He heard the console beep a couple of times.

Demore looked at the screen, and listened to the computer. “Accessing files for Commander Hewitt Demore.”

Demore shrugged again. It just wasn’t working. He logged off, walking over to one of the few consoles in the entire Engineering department that had yet to be transformed into the CAT-5 system.

“Computer, load database for Hewitt Demore,” he said, waiting for the beeps.

The computer complied. “Accessing files for Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Hewitt Demore.” The files appeared onscreen, just as they always had.

Demore was completely dumbfounded. The CAT-5 system was not designed to interact with the database system hardly at all. Really, he thought to himself, this can’t be happening. But nonetheless, it was. He was trying to think of theories as to why this was happening but, unfortunately, none were coming to mind.

Except the database. Demore brought out his PADD, with the detailed instructions for the CAT-5 system. It was still on the section entitled “Summary”.

Tapping a few buttons, Demore brought up the required design hardware for the system. He typed in “A-E-G-I-S-[space]-U-S-E-R-[space]-D-A-T-A-B-A-S-E” and waited. The PADD beeped. Just as Demore had feared, Aegis did not even qualify for the CAT-5 project. The database installed on Aegis did not meet the requirements.

Demore did other intense scans of the system. As the PADD finished, he skimmed the results. It wasn’t as bad as he had figured; only the User Database aboard the station did not meet CAT-5 requirements. All other systems did, or at least were stated as meeting the requirements.

Fortunately, the database is something that can easily be upgraded. In fact, it was upgraded often. But, since the “Bug” had been run, the database was shut down. When it was brought back online, the database went back to its original installation of over two years ago. “An easy fix,” Demore said to himself, and began the upgrade.

The upgrade went flawlessly. Now running the newest version of the User Database, Aegis met the requirements for the CAT-5 system. However, this must be tested.

However, Zertz was still working with the Holodeck module, which was causing problems with consoles blowing up. The only thing keeping the consoles in Engineering now which have the CAT-5 system installed on them from blowing up is one simple fact: The modules database had not been installed on those consoles.

Once we find a fix to the Holodeck module, we will then install the module package to all of the consoles through the station’s Central Computer Core. This will make the installation on every Engineering console quick and easy, given the CAT-5 system has already been installed (which it has).

Currently, only three consoles in Engineering do not have the CAT-5 system installed on them. This includes one console near the Secondary Fusion Reactors on deck 58, one in Main Engineering as a backup console, and (by request) Commander GromVik’s console, also in Main Engineering.

Work is coming along on the CAT-5 project, slowly but surely. I have compiled faults occurred in the system, and a “roadmap” to the completion of this project in a data PADD to Commander GromVik. A completion date is still unknown, but the bugs are being worked out. I predict the completion to be soon, myself, but whether or not that will happen or not… I don’t know.
