Tragic Day for a Hockey Fan

Some of you all are Hockey fans, and are aware of the Russian Plane crash earlier today. We know tragedies like this happen, it..for me is just unbelievable that an entire team was wiped out. This was a highly competitive league in Russia that included NHL players and personnel. My local team, Anaheim Ducks lost one of their former players in the crash. The guy was the defense of the team in the formative years of the club and beyond. We have pictures and autographs from this kind athlete Ruslan Salei who came from Belarus in our home to play here in Anaheim.

Bad news happens. I just cannot recall an entire sports team wiped out.. Just shocking

Precip,

Stunned Hockey fan.

I'm with you on this one Precip, truly sad and a loss of some really quality people and talented athletes. Also lost was former Flyers defenseman Brad McCrimmon, more recently coaching in Canada. The Beast was not only an awesome player, but did a lot for the local community when he was in Philly, a really good guy.

There have been a few other accidents on a similar level, though many of you might have been too young to remember (I can get away with saying that, cause I konw you). The Marshall University football team lost most of their team and coaches in a crash in 1970 (recently a movie made about it "We are Marshall", the US boxing team in the early 80's and a rugby team that crashed in the early 70's in the Andes mountains, also the subject of a movie called "Alive". Not the whole team died, but after their plane crashed, they lost more to an avalanche, then had to live for 10 weeks by...well, we'll not go into that.

I know there were a few other such tragedies in the 50's and 60's, but can't remember the specifics, Hopefully something like this wont' happen again.
