I always loved the scene with Homer Simson talking to his TV saying, "Friend, teacher, secret lover..."

 

Here at STSF we are a game.  Just a game.  It's a game.  Something to add to your already multifaceted life.  Okay, we're a fantastic game with unique qualities, but we are NOT your friends, teachers, and secret lovers!  :)

 

We're not your counselors, your life guides, your animal guides, your new religion...

 

We ARE casual buddies, and we are a very cerebral and complex game with roots in creative fantasy worthy of your time and attention.

 

The point of my post is just a gentle reminder to not let that perspective get skewed.  Use us as an additional enrichment to your life, but do be careful about making us your one and only hobby.  I've been around a long time and I've seen what happens when that balance gets out of control.  The end results are never very good. :X  We can not supply an emotional element to your life that sometimes comes to be looked for or expected.  We're just other people here looking to play a good game.

 

So, I'll be your casual friend, your game teacher, but NObody's secret lover!!  Well, okay, maybe some of the GM's...

I have tons of hobbies too and I don't think I have ever thought of anyone in STSF as my secret lover and if you do think of someone here as your secret lover you should head to a padded room and run into the walls because it is basically really fun and gives you something to do :)

of course not we are all friends, we are on happy(not always true) family that lives on a star ship :) yeah i have 230 pounds of hobbie, a some what limited but always fun :)

Yes, thank you Huff, it's a GAME, people.  For example, I don't mind discussing Star Trek canon with players, but when I direct something in a sim that trips over that iron barrier and I get players so angry at me, that all they can do is rant and rave in e-mails... I must remind them, "it's a game, y'know?"

Alright, well, hopefully not too many people just said the above. But it is true. Everything in moderation. You enjoy simming as an evening activity, great. But don't let it run your life. I too have seen it and while it can offer an escape from the real world, you must remember that there is a real world out there. :)

I agree! This is probably why we don't have it in the daytime. This country is getting more and more hooked on computer's and even more on the WWW. There is more things to do than sitting at the computer 24/7/364.

:)  Does anyone else realize that there are 365 days in a year--366 in a leap year?  What are they teaching you ppl inschool now :D
