USS Manticore 7.18.11

The Manticore is about to leave the Badlands after destroying a dozen secret Federation probes left in this strange area of space, with the help of the Wyvern and Griffin fighter/shuttles. The Wyvern was disabling a probe when a terrible series of events led to the explosion of the probe and (it seemed) the Wyvern. The Manticore crew is in shock, but finished the mission, unaware that the Wyvern crew now seems to be alive and stuck in a starless void in a severely damaged shuttle. The Manticore is leaving the Badlands and prepping for a memorial service for their "fallen" comrades.
