Hello everyone

Hello, I'm new around here and from the way it looks, this is the Star Trek sim that I'll love staying with. I've been a fan of Star Trek since my mom started having me watch it when I was 4, which means I've had 23 years worth of fandom. I have done a lot of reading when it comes to the Star Trek universe and always wanted to get involved with a sim, but many I've found that were play by post seemed to lack organization and allowance for a lot of character development. I'm looking forward to jumping in and seeing how everything goes with the Academy and then moving onto a ship to continue the fun. Thank you for your time.

Hi, Valenshay. Coming from someone with a lot of time in PBeM sims, STSF definitely has its advantages. See you around in the academies.

I'm probably biased - okay, really biased - but the Star Trek Simulation Forum is a high quality organization. The combination of academy training, live chat role play/simming, character dev, and fan fiction starring our own characters within the Trek universe is really the best of all worlds. And, personal drama is simply not accepted; the ego baggage is left at the door and we get down to business and play!

Welcome to STSF Valenshay! Have fun!

From everything I see, I can agree fully. Honestly what sold me was the idea of the live role play, since the other sims I participated in could take a week to a month to get a simple task done. But I do have one quick question, should I start working on a character idea at least even if I'm just in the Academy? I understand that I can't pinpoint a position until I graduate, but I was thinking that having something written up to that point might, at least for me, make the role playing easier.

Hello Valenshay, and welcome to the Star Trek Simulation Forum!

First, to answer your question, all players in the academy are cadets (except for the GMs) and all are human. We make that rule and discourage major character development ("major" as in "this is the character I'll play on an advanced simulation") to focus on the basics - following the chain of command, playing your position, following action statements and sticking to the mission briefing, etc. Once you're in an advanced game you get to develop your character within the guidelines of your particular game's GMs.

That said, I'm glad you found us. I've been with this organization since '94 (yeah, I'm that old) and it never gets boring!

Looking forward to working with you in the academies.
