STSF boards love the word "new"

Why is it that lately everytime I see the word "new" on the boards its in red font and bold? Why does STSF like the word new so much?

Yes, I think it's something that our illustrious webmaster had set up before to highlight special words automatically, so that when you say something is new, it stands out!

Actually that was not even a feature I personally coded in there.  That feature has been a part of the message board since it's initial 3.0.x development in 2001.  :)

What's happening when you use the "New Posts" link is you are telling the server to query data from the MySQL database (the big void in space that sucks up posts and saves them for later) and return any value that's been added since your last recorded login/logout.

The board will automatically timeout any user's session after 15 minutes of inactivity, so when you come back 15 minutes later, or if you logout and log back in again, you will see the new posts indicators changed and the posts displayed as new changed.

Since the board is actually searching for NEW posts, it highlights the phrase "new".  Any phrase that you search for in the search database will be highlighted as a way of making your phrase easier to find when looking through topics.
