It would be easy to follow them around, too. You'd have "temporary characters" that would come in for a season, then leave. But all our core cast would somehow, coincidentally, end up on the same starship.

Why not have multiple ships?  Then transfers to lead to different combinations...  So the personal dynamics change as characters work together for a while in various combinations, then regroup in new combinations as transfers happen...

::Waves to get Nem's attention:: Hey, I think it's been said before, and I don't mean to nitpick, but I am having trouble reading your posts.

Could you use a little punctuation? Please?

Thanks kiddo

::Gets all googly eyed and nervous around Jenna::  She's so cool.

People want the basics, not the Jeri Ryan cat suit Borg shoot-em ups. That's not what the "Wagon Train to the stars" was supposed to be about.

While I agree with your basic point, I have to argue with the idealization of TOS.  Remember Kirk's half-naked-woman of the week?

I'm still surprised that no one wanted the charming Nemesis for captian I'm insulted ok now I'm over it  :)  but all funnyiness aside I think a starfleet command series might be interesting as well we could see more of earth and probably more fleet battles. :)

sorry about the bad writing.

Anyway, I agree, we should probably have a Starfleet Command series.

The the real attraction to me with a command series is seeing more of earth and what it looks like in the star trek universe for we were never really given a good look at our home and the true beauty of it like what does Toronto look like or New York and such like that for we know what San Fransico looks like but thats about it.  :)

I think a series based at the academy would be too much like a teen bobper/ Buffy/ Felicty type show

Well on depends on how they do it and who they direct it to for it could be very serious or it good be nothing but a teen show I doubt they'll ever do it though.

yes felicity just didn't work on my poor male brain. You need a serious director with dedication to trek to how it shows an enlightened future that strives for good buts still has room for fun. Not this pop fluff u see in the new star wars films or telly shows. Go back to the vision. Starfleet academy has been brought up SO many times it deserves a shot. Perhaps you could base it around the students but have actual main character teachers (not just dumb "you need your work in soon" characters) it COULD work.

Hey there,

Again, the entire concept of a "Star Trek Academy: 90210" series is just...eh...demeaning to even think about. The entire concept and realistic storylines would just go out the window.

You want realistic storylines in a show about humans and aliens warping between stars on a giant picture-perfect ship?

I think Star Trek has pretty much run out of show ideas, honestly. They're reaching with this new Enterprise. I like it, personally (try to watch it each week) but its no where near the caliber of the old series TOS, TNG, or even DS9.

(VOY excluded because I hated the series and barely watched it)

I love Enterprise for it has far more of the old TOS appeal then all the other series and it is far greater appeal for they have like lower technologies then most races out their and the Vulcans are shown in a differant light and it shows more sides of the Klingons it has many great appeals maybe even better then the older series for it has many lessons that are closer to modern day humans while still those of the future.  :)

i think that they may be downgrading earth technology a bit too much, i mean think in a pretty short amount of time earth will become the CENTRE of the federation with a HUGE amount of powerful ships. The technology will be so powerful that it beats vulcan technology easily and makes other species tremble when they are encountered with a new class. Meanwhile enterprise seems to be stuck with one pretty banged up volkswagon.

Images Earth doesn't beat Vulcan technology. The Vulcans are members or the Federation so it is their technology as well and Earth is the head place for it because I have no idea and it seems weird we come out of no where and become one of the most powerful races in the Quaderant I guess we are just quick studies. :)

Well,

Rather than having an Academy series devoted specifically to the academy, why not have a show that follows three or four generations of Star Fleet officers.  For example, the show follows Admiral Jones of Star Fleet Command, Commander Jones, XO of USS Something or other and Cadet Jones, first year cadet.  That might be interesting.

Sounds like my girlfriends soap opera.

(Quote-fred)

I don't think there should be any real differences at the core of the show. That's why for many Star Trek fans, DS9 and VOY were such a turnoff.

Ahem all due espect SIR but I loved voyager. :)

What about a show that shows the inner workings off all aspects of starfleet. You could follow an admiral working at starfleet command in some department. You could also follow a chief engineer of a ship. Then you could follow a medical cadet. It wouldn't be hard to have them prgress and recieve promotions. And more charecters can be brought in.

Or. You could have an academy type show like friends, where as they advance in their lives, they stay together and experience things like marriage and parenthood together as a group.

I would definitely be a supporter for a series involving the academy. It's one of the only places we never see in episodes. Starfleet command is always seen. With admirals and other people and their offices. The academy was only seen in a few TNG and DS9 episodes.

Just my dollars and sense,

Dr. Brian Smith, (LtJg)

I would love to see a show that would be a cross between Third Watch (the best darn show on TV) and say Friends. Kind of along the lines of the one mentioned as starting in the academy.

With 3rd Watch, they started with a rookie cop, straight out of the academy, who is parterned with his dad's former partner. What incredible dynamics and storylines thats spun. And then they have a new paramedic who wants to be a doctor, just paramedicing his way through med school. A real jerk that is slowly changing through his time with others. A female firefighter having to overcome the predjuice against women in the fire dept. along with the fact that she used to be a paramedic.

Change this to ST... you could have the first season be the last year a group is in the academy. What their goals are in the fleet, maybe where they are doing internships.. and then move them off to ships and assignments. Maybe one stays at Skunkkworks and is an engineer or researcher. Someone else is assigned to an admirals staff, or to an ambassadorial position, and a couple go off to other ships. You could tie things in, have them run into each other on different assignments.

Hmmmm.......
