Hey here's an idea.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

A cross between Star Trek and Dawsons Creek.

I like the academy idea. But then the series could only go on for 4 years??

Nah, after their 7th year as academy cadets, when the actors all look old enough to be department chiefs, or even commanding their own ships, they decide to marry off the whole class to each other and/or send them to far away places, with the exception of the most annoying character, who gets retained for "Starfleet Academy: The New Class."

well boston public and other school-type shows can keep going why not the academy? personally i don't think it's too hot an idea, to teenie ya know? if they DID do it, getting colm meaney (O'Brian) to be the engineering proffessor would be a must

Hey there,

I selected other because glancing at the poll I didn't see my choice. Simply have a regular Star Trek series. Set it several years after the Dominion War and have it follow the guidelines of TOS and TNG. Nothing more, nothing less, yet what the entire franchise is (supposedly) about.

Hey there,

I don't think there should be any real differences at the core of the show. That's why for many Star Trek fans, DS9 and VOY were such a turnoff. They got away from the basic concept of Star Trek. Your a ship, part of this large organization, going out and exploring at some point in the distant future.

Make a show that takes place at the end of the 24th Century. They're an explorer type vessel and leave it at that. It's what cultivated the franchise for almost 30 years. I think any new incarnation of Trek should get back to the basics.

Yeah I was thinking about that which is probably why the Titan is winning but I don't think I could watch riker without worf, Geordi, Crusher, and most of all Picard. I do agree with you on that type of series but they would need to change something to have more stories and not just copy the old which was what people got angry about with DS9 and Voyager over as well as your stated reason.    :D

Isn't that what Enterprise was like it's first two seasons. Exploring "Strange, New worlds." Now It's turning into voyager, except they're going in voluntarily, and they wont be stranded, other wise, they're exploring a completely new area with no familiar species kinda like Voyager minus the borg.

Knowing Berman and Braga the borg might pop up again hehehehehe

Hey there,

I honestly don't see what all would have to change. TNG's first few seaons sufferred from the fact there was serious doubt about how to handle the show. Remember, it'd been a good 15 years since a new Star Trek (non-animated) series was produced.  I don't think there's anything that needs to change. Part of Trek's problem is that attempting to appeal to "wider-non Trek audiences" has resulted in the loss of the many core fans. People want the basics, not the Jeri Ryan cat suit Borg shoot-em ups. That's not what the "Wagon Train to the stars" was supposed to be about.

One episode I've always enjoyed was a TNG one that was done from the viewpoint of the lower ranking officers (I don't know titles so don't ask!:D  It was refreshing to get a non-top officer perspective.  I would love to see a series (done right) that starts with a freshman class in the academy and follows them through graduation and their first assignments.  Think about it - we'd be able to follow different ships, transfers, drop outs, and all those fantastic early career trials.  Some make it, some don't, some rise to the challenge, some face harder adjustment to the psychological elements, some are smart, some scrape by with their fingernails, etc.

It would be a show about people, yet would give us a fresh perspective on the inner workings of Starfleet.  And of course it would be loaded with cool new ships, special effects, wars, battles, diplomacy, cool aliens...

hmmmm that would be nice but it couldn't really after they graduate for how would they be able to show all the ne ensigns at their new posts they could in a 3 hour long show but maybe if it focused on 1 ensign.  :D

::Waves to get Nem's attention:: Hey, I think it's been said before, and I don't mean to nitpick, but I am having trouble reading your posts.

Could you use a little punctuation? Please?

Thanks kiddo

Great idea Huff! It would be easy to follow them around, too. You'd have "temporary characters" that would come in for a season, then leave. But all our core cast would somehow, coincidentally, end up on the same starship.

neither do i.

Anyway, I'm regretting my poll choice. I should have null voted rather than chose the Titan answer. It needs to be a good ol-fashioned ST series. Ever since Roddenberry died his Star Trek empire has slowly fallen apart. Less and less hard core fans have been watching it. The new series needs to go back to it's oringinal theme that dates back to TOS and the first Star Trek movies.

In closing, let us not be plunged deeper into the "new series" and let us go back to the old-fashioned theme that the honorable Gene Roddenberry based this great sci-fi show. Please, or else we may never see the same Star Trek again.

Sincerely,

Connor Willingham

Not true willingham TNG after Roddenbury died it still went on and grew momentum and maybe thats a reason people thought DS9 and Voyager were bad because there was no Roddenbury to produce it and Berman was unfit but I myself loved both the series and Berman has done an excellant job. Huff I'm having trouble imaging your view but I only watch discovery channel and Star Trek so I don't know much of tv but everyone else says it's a good idea so it must be or I'm the smartest person in STSF which I somewhat believe but I just have a high ego.  :D

Well... in someways it is. Everything we say in here is opinion and i'll respect that. It just depends on our point of view (or whatever it is).
