Androids

I was just watching an episode of Star Trek: TNG with the Crystaline Entity, and I was wondering how superb an androids functions should be?  Mr. Data can read super fast, has super human strength, and immortality.  Yet he never heard the Crystaline Entity until Riker heard it.  Pretty funny, huh? :)

Anyway, I thought it was funny and I know I am being too picky for a show....but I just had to point it out. :D  Especially because we have machines that can pick up sounds before the human ear!

Maybe Soong specifically designed limitations into Data so that he would be more human-like.

Such as when Data is reading something off the computer screen. Why would he bother doing that when he could possibly just download all the information? Doing so makes him look more human.

you got that right, i am programed for other "superior" functions, but as people say nobody is perfect, so people are designed with limitations i want to be more human :D but i cannot use contractions! :) that is sad.

My programming is far superior to mostbeings. Example: I can use contractions. (I sound like Lore don't I?)

Well you need to remember Data being very advanced is merely a computer and computers can only hold so much knowledge which is why Data was not given the emotion chip for it would damage his nueral net like it did Lore. As well about Reading instead of DL it makes more sense to read then it does to download for DL requires setting up a link with the computer which takes time and the speed of his reading makes it foolish to just Dl.  :D
