"All The Pretty Colors"

Lieutenant (Jg) Garnoopy

Operations Officer

Personal Log Stardate 10308.06

“All The Pretty Colors”

Garnoopy’s eyes opened ever so slightly and he saw in front of him a row of beautiful colors radiating from some sort of panel. He grinned and sat up, looking around, noting how the cave had suddenly seemed to come alive with happiness in the past few minutes.

A loud beeping was emanating from somewhere around him and he realized it was coming from his hand which held, what was it called? Oh yes, a tricorder! That was it.

He looked at the tricorder and laughed while wondering what person would have decided to design such an instrument with such pretty colors. The device beeped again and Garnoopy realized that the thing was scanning the area around him.

“How very marvelous!” he cried, his eyes amazed at the thought that this thing could actually scan.

The readings were showing what this wonderful smelling vapor was made off. He looked at the readings and the tricorder stuck one word on its main display. He tried to read it but the colors kept distracting him and the word was long and complicated.

“Hallll----“ he said, and squinted.

“Hallllucigenit” he managed to sputter out.

What a complicated word this was. He would have to tell his Cap-e-tan about it, the man was sure to be amazed that the little device could scan.

He looked back down at the panels on the box and sat there to stare at the amazing colors radiating from the panel.

Meanwhile. . .

The virus had no intelligent life in itself, it was simple a biological compound designed to render the planet uninhabitable. Within 45 minutes of being dispersed through the water system it had infected over 8,000 colonists, though none of them would realize that they were infected until symptoms began to show in 15 to 30 minutes.

Interacting with the systems of the infected hosts the virus began to mutate. That was the nature of this virus. No computer could identify the virus or how to cure it due to that it would continue to change and prevent any form of suppression. There was one weakness, but only Lieutenant Commander Tepi knew it.

The virus mutated inside the hosts and then, when someone sneezed, it went airborne. Within an hour the virus would have infected the entire planet and the only cure was to get out of the atmosphere within two hours of infection. If not, permanent brain damage would occur.
