Ok so Mr. Jefferies wasn't the only starship designer for Startrek but he's one of the few who has passed on, besides he man who started it all Gene Roddenberry.  :D  SO cast your votes and if you have another favorite not liste here post about it below.

I honestly believe the best class of ship ever created was the Constitution Class. This is a design that, best anyone can determine, was Starfleet's front running deep space explorer, heavy cruiser, defender, etc. for well over 60 years. A long run for a design that really didn't change all too much.

True Fred but that doesnt make it the best for best is always in personly opinion and preference like I love the Hermes class which I'm sure not many people even know about and tovan and stron know why I love it :wink:

I've always loved the Olympic Class medical ship seen in All Good Things (TNG)

 

Its the one with the sphere hull, the updated version of the old Essex Class.

Since the poll asked for favorite class, I have to go with one of the CGI rendered vessels from First Contact...the Akira Class.

 

A shame this ship is so badly misrepresented in the Star Trek Encyclopedia (only two torpedo launchers??).  A better reference to this "gunship" like starship is the Starship Spotter book published in 2001. by Paramount.  I love this vessel because, in my opinion it is the latest descendant of the Miranda Class Starship.  The last being the Nebula Class. I enjoy seeing the people who design these ships add elements from prior classes.

 

As for best Starship Class, Fred has a good arguement with the Constitution Class vessel.  I feel however..the Excelsior..which started in controversy...has become the longest lived most durable design in the history of Starfleet.  (of course that could change if we see another 24th-25th century Star Trek series!)

Hehe, Precip remember the time we did that one sim like a sunday after noon or something!  That one was fun, I bet you had fun in your own Aikra.  

 

I clicked that one for my fav since Ambassador isnt up there.

 

Best though...in a war time would most likely go to the soverign or the Aikra, its fun to see stuff blow up.

Constitution is my favorite for purely asthetic reasons.  TOS art had those thin spidery streamlined elements in their starship designs that got overridden in later series by blocky "cooler" elements.

you guys are so silly!!!  I said I liked the NX class.  True, the constituition is a great ship, and the NX dos look newer, but the NX is what made most of the consition class possible :wink:  At least I think so

 

I love exploringing and exceeding limitation and  that's  whta the NX ship does. :D

I like the NX-01 the fact they have no shield, phasers, or even a tracktor. The navy ship like style interior is cool and the sickbay doors as well. I also like the change of warp core several little things that make it look new and old at the same time  :D

Well, some folks have noted though that during several "fleet" sequences of DS9 that Constitution Class ships could be made out in the distance.

 

It make sense too. When you think about the fact that Excelsior, Miranda and to a certain point even Constellation class ships have survived/are in service in the late 24th century....makes sense that refitted Constitution Class vessels probably would be as well. Maybe not the front running ships of the fleet anymore, but someone's got be patrolling, protecting and maintaining scientific data on the Federation's "known" areas. :D

those ships must never have seen a lot of action.  It didn't relatively too long for the enterprise to become enterprise-E.  Maybe those on the old ships felt like the characters in the movie down periscope....
