Board advert popups?

Lately when I go to the STSF website, I get a popup for casinos and stuff. Whats up with that?

Haven't gotten any of those yet.  Hope there aren't any plans in the works to introduce them.

You might want to check the website you left *before* you went to the STSF site.  It might have some Javascript that pops up ads when it goes off.

Yup, what they said.  It's not tagged to STSF, that's for sure.  I know that if I check AOL mail via their webmail interface and then go to another website, I get to the new site with a popup telling me all about how many free hours I'll get with the latest version of AOL.  Oy!

I get the same thing A, plus they have new popups for match.com and all kinds of stupid websites like that.

I suggest running a program like spybot and seeing what exactly has attached itself to your computer.  Most likely the random popup adds are coming from an unwanted program.

I recommend switching to a browser that has popup-blocking functionality, like Mozilla.   :D

I just tried that spybot thing. I'm still getting a popup when I come to STSF.com. BUT, it only happens when I come here...everywhere else I go on the net the popup never appears. And its always the same for some online casino gambling thing.

Well, I guess you're special, Vex, since no one else gets them and the website is not linked to any advertising or pop-up system.

Sorry.

Yeah its weird. I tried deleting my cookies too and re-logging into the site but it doesnt work.

Guess its a mystery that I'll have to just live with. Every other site doesnt do it, just this one.

Ah well.   :D

There are lots of parasite programs that jam themselves in your computer's cookies and favorites (and registry) that will start giving all sorts of pop-ups.  Let me state again that stsf.net is not engaged in any advertising, pop-up ads, banner ads or other money-making schemes.  I should know, I'm the one who paid for the site.

Please check your computer for these parasites, it will make everything run smoother.  I recommend spybot and ad-aware, both of them are free programs.

Good luck.

Yes I used spybot and deleted all my cookies and started out fresh. All the ads "seem" to be gone so I really do think it was something on my computer. The internet is so complex these days :D
