Malicious Intent

Malicious Intent

“I suppose with those items.. in theory... with the stolen items from science and if the thieves had malicious intent, they could have launched some sort of biological weapon? Unlikely... but considering that they did take four probes, it is a possibility.”

Her conversation with Dr. Feretti still in mind, Cdr Chirakis left the science complex on her way to security. The probes, air filtration systems, chemicals and medications taken from the station could easily point in the direction of a biological weapon, but not necessarily. As the lift moved, she found herself alone with thoughts of a previous life she had almost forgotten.

During her Maquis days, Kirel had come across former Starfleet LtCdr Michael Eddington’s cell. Several thousand tons of pilfered selenium and rhodium nitrite enabled the cell to create cobalt diselenide - a nerve agent deadly to Cardassians. Eddington’s planned attack on every Cardassian colony had, strangely enough, led Kirel to SI-5; as much as she hated Cardassians, she could not stomach Eddington’s plan. To engage in genocide made her no better than those she despised - a strange thought considering she had, at one time, planned to torture as many Cardassians as possible if she ever escaped slavery.

In effect, Dr, Feretti’s mere suggestion that the thieves on Aegis could be building a weapon had taken the Bajoran commander’s thoughts back to Eddington, the Maquis, and ultimately to the Cardassian slave colony on which she was born.

As the doors opened on the midway, Kirel hoped that the quantity stolen from the station hardly met the criteria for a full-scale attack against a major civilization. But they could be enough to make a small strike on an unsuspecting city, colony, or... station. Though she was no scientist, she knew some biological agents could kill millions with only a few grams released into the atmosphere....

Ambassador Drankum had already disappeared into the departure pylon access, on his way to a diplomatic meeting by the time Kirel entered the security complex. It seemed to her a strange coincidence that he would leave now, just after materiel disappeared from the station and the Tjurakh raided a colony inside Ferengi space. She would check her own sources. In the meantime, there was other station business to attend to.

Indeed, Admiral. You should visit your comrades who are on the station. I'm sure SubCommander Jorahl and Centurion tr'Jeth Dabi would be honored to receive you. Of course, the station is not quite four-star yet, but we're getting there.
