Upper Level Discussions

Mackenzie Hardwick turned to the others sitting in the room with him grinning, “So, which of you want to be the one to meet her at the airlock when the ship gets here?” Quickly several others of the Security Council all made their excuses, from having another meeting to attend to, having to teach a course at the academy to outright saying ‘no thanks’. “Ah, I figured as much, you’re all a bunch of cowards,” he jested, “You know she’s just a big ole’ pussycat when it comes down to things, but I think we’ve got her pretty angry this time.”

“No Mack…..’You’ have her pretty angry this time. You’re the one that recommended to medical that they put her on administrative leave. For that alone, you should be the one that has to meet her, and explain your reasoning,” Rear Admiral Lyle responded.

“Well, that and not only did you take away her command, you then put her on a fast ship to Terra, and then didn’t let her get as much rest as I think we all agree that she could use a bit of. The doctor on DS9 and his assistant that he sent with her had both mentioned that she needs more sleep. All we did was then spend the better part of the last three and a half days interrogating her over the facts of what happened with that whole OEST situation.” Admiral Chadwick turned to the rest of the room, “She’s a damned good officer, and I hate to end things like this for her.”

Ambassador Suvern turned to Chadwick, “I do not believe that her career must be over or ended, just because she’s been removed from an active field position. There are plenty of positions which she could fulfill here in this very building. Planning, tactical, even teaching a course at the Academy.”

Lyle turned back to the Vulcan, “Let me put it into a better perspective for you Ambassador. Imagine that you had a feral Sehlat, and you just confined it to a small room and poked it with a stick a few dozen times, and then expected it to be agreeable when you wanted to pet it? Not likely to happen.”

“I do not understand why anyone would want to poke a stick at a Sehlat?” responded Suvern.

Hardwick chuckled, “It’s a metaphor Ambassador. He’s just saying we’ve gotten her pretty upset at the moment is all, and that she’s not one to take well to being confined. Desk duty will chew her up. She’d more likely retire than to be confided to a desk. I know I would if I were in her shoes.”

“To be fair to Mack, that OEST issue is a priority agenda item for the Security Council from what we’ve seen of then early reports of hers. Personally, I’d had wished we had also sent for her First Officer who was actually held by them. It would have been good to have gotten a full perspective of their potential capabilities,” said Commodore Trallius.

“I think his reasoning was fairly sound, she’s had what, at least 6 major concussions in the last 2-3 years. Right there that’s cause to worry. That’s a lot of head trauma, and I for one don’t want to be the one responsible should she have some sort of occurrence, that were to leave her blind or sitting in the corner drooling and unable to remember her name,” Chadwick shook his head.

“Mack, it’s pretty unanimous, you pulled her command, you get to go meet with her,” responded Lyle. “

“Fine, I’ll have medical run some tests on her, see what we have, and if they give her any type of clearance, I’ll run her over to UP, and see what we can do about getting things moving over there. Luckily, that project was approximately 4 months ahead of schedule, so I believe we can accommodate a more aggressive timeline for getting that project underway. But if I see any signs whatsoever during this visit that she’s having difficulties, and then it becomes permanent."
