Conspiring Executive Officers

A Joint Log by Captain Rian Kwai, Commander Rue Wydown and Rear Admiral Errrika BluRox

“Well, that turned out as best as one could expect, hmm?" Finishing up her orders to the Republic crew on what their next tasks were, Rian was talking to herself, and to no one in particular, as she rounded the corner to the bay where the Admiral's yacht was docked. She glanced at the status board to find that the air had cycled back so it was safe to enter. "Joined gods, here we go."

BluRox was sitting back in the seat, resting her head and telling herself that she just needed a few moments to get her bearings straight. The bright light of the bay caused her head to throb a bit. She just closed her eyes, and wished for the ringing in her ears to dissipate.

"That blasted AI better be right," Rian frowned as she walked to the hatch of the yacht. "Or maybe it's her way of playing a joke on me." She typed in her own security codes to open the hatch, taking a step back as the door lowered to form the ramping to the vehicle.

Hearing the hatch activate, she assumed it was Rian and quietly whispered, "Rian?"

"Aye," The Trill entered the vehicle and took a seat next to Blu. "Well, we made it. More or less."

“We got her through; I wasn't going to leave her. Thank-you Rian for not letting them beam me out." BluRox spoke softly while still holding her head in one paw.

“I was beginning to think I was going to have to tackle one of them for the controls." She watched Blu's head-in-paw routine and knew then that Holly wasn't teasing. "Head starting to hurt again?" It was stating the obvious but heck, Rian thought; it was at least a conversation starter.

Sighing, and again, her voice much quieter than normal, BluRox responded, "A little bit I'm afraid. Go ahead, say it." Her expressions easily conveying the discomfort that she was in, while waiting for the inevitable ‘I told you so,’ from her first officer.

"We should get you to sickbay then. You feel comfortable enough to move or should I call someone?"

“I just got out of the damned sickbay. I could get no rest there. And all the noise and commotion, please, I just want to go somewhere quiet, so I can close my eyes."

"It'll be a different sickbay, with no scary Klingon; unless you got any other ideas? Because it's either sickbay, or you sit there in pain, and I don't think you want that either," Rian attempted to reason with the Admiral.

“Ok."

"Okay what? Okay I'll go to sickbay. Or okay I'll sit here and stew?" Rian tilted her head.

“Ok, I'll do what you want."

"Wow. No argument. That's a change." Rian stood, offering her a hand up. "I'm going to have to mark this date in the calendar.” If Blu wasn’t putting up a fight, then Kwai knew that the woman was hurting.

Uncovering her eyes, she squinted a bit, to help filter the light, and saw the other woman motioning for her to take her hand. Reaching over, BluRox took care to keep her claws sheathed, and slightly nodded to Rian that she will do as she asked.

Kwai attempted to assist BluRox from the seat. "We'll take this slow, okay? One step at a time."

“Yes, Rian."

Muttering to herself, "Now I know you're not feeling well," She slid under Blu's arm so that it was draped around her shoulders. Grabbing her wrist with one hand, sliding the other arm around Blu's back to assist her, she carefully guided the Admiral out of the yacht. They paused only long enough for Kwai to secure the yacht, then shuffled across the decking. "We going to fast for you?"

“No, this is fine," Thankful for the balance while walking, BluRox was unsure she could have gotten there on her own at the moment.

Kwai exhaled heavily, not so much because Blu was heavy but because the Captain was rather tired after all this. She hadn't had much down time since the Oest incident. And what little time she had taken was to catch what little sleep she was able to get. Putting one foot in front of the other had become a specialty with Kwai, it was all she knew to do. "By the way, Captain Corizon invited us to 'drinks' after this." She tried to initiate some sort of conversation to break the awkward silence as they trudged down the corridor.

"Rian, stop.....I'm sorry, I shouldn't be leaning on you so hard. I can get there from here." Having heard the exertion the woman was putting into moving her. “Or just call Will, he'll get me where I need to go."

“Will has his hands full with the kids. Jax is in sickbay getting a checkup. Besides, you're not that bad." She let Blu lean against the wall as they waited for the lift.

“Rian, I'm going to need some help if you don't mind. I need a secure channel patched to Admiral Hardwick, and,” She pauses a moment trying to remember where she was with her thought.

Just then the lift opened with another officer who was leaning casually against the back of the lift, her arms folded across her chest, her ankles crossed in front of her. "Wotcha." She grinned in greeting at the two officers. Commander Rue Wydown had been worried after seeing the physical appearance of Captain Kwai; she just didn't physically look right. So, being the nosey person she was, she'd followed Kwai to see what she was up to and to watch over her until she could somehow cajole her into getting into sickbay before Rue's leave began.

"Nevermind." Rian muttered, spying Cdr Wydown's grinning face. "A little help here?"

Rue looked the Admiral up and down as she came over to throw the woman's other arm over her shoulder. "Lovely to see you again, mate. Need a lift 'ere?"

“No...no," BluRox protested quietly, “I'll be fine."

"And I be a monkey's uncle." Rue smirked. "C'mon luv. Into the lift we go." She glanced over to Kwai who seemed to taking the weight rather well, perhaps she was wrong about her physical appearance. "Whot's it about ship captains? They always make the worst patients." With Kwai's help, she managed to haul BluRox into the lift.

“Thanks, Commander." Rian nodded a little.

"Really, I'm feeling much better now. No need for all of this fuss. It’s just a headache"

“Don't listen to her," Rian peered around Blu's form to speak to Rue.

"Don't worry, I'm not swanning off." Rue laughed. "Sickbay, my good computer." She glanced at Blu. "You lot should be sectioned, you know?"

"You two are in collusion."

“Yes, while I was on Excalibur I started to plot with Commander Wydown. We purposely put you into a position where you'll re-injury yourself so that I can take over what's left of Republic and sail for calmer space." Rian answered flatly, helping Rue to get Errrika moving again once the lift doors open. "It was a particularly evil plot. You found us out. Now what should we do with you?"

"Take ya to sickbay and have ye drugged out of yer skull," Rue grinned. She motioned for Rian to slow down just a bit to ease Blu through the promenade traffic.

"No," BluRox protested a bit more forceful now, “I don't have time for that. I have to get a hold of Admiral Hardwick."

"Who's Admiral Hardwick?" Rue asked, not recognizing the name.

"He's at Starfleet Command, back on Terra. Well, more accurately, on Mars. I need to inform him as to the status of Republic and speak with him on another matter of the utmost urgency. I was told to report in as soon as we did or did not get through the wormhole."

Rue motions for Rian to stop, pointing to a viewport ledge where they can lean the Admiral against it. "Captain, why don't ye see if ye can relieve sickbay of a hovercart hmmm?" She motioned with the flick of her head the direction of sickbay. "I'll stay with the Admiral here, aye?" She watched the Captain's face, trying to decide if this was a wise idea, then nodded reluctantly. She waited until Rian was out of earshot before she bent down to meet the Admiral's eye as she was sitting. "Look, luv. You're not well. I dunno what happened back there, but ya look like crap. And if'n you don't mind me sayin' so, so does your Capt'n there." She gave her a motherly kinda look. "I can arrange for ya to comm the Admiral after we get to sickbay if you can help me keep your Capt'n in sickbay to get checked out. Savvy?"

“I can walk, I’m just a bit....off-center. But what's wrong with Kwai? She hadn't said anything was bothering her. You don't think......Can you check her to make sure she does not have the same parasite that was put into our Dr. Weber? She had been held by the Oest as well," Blu’s voice trailed off, genuinely worried for Rian now. "Here, this is just....a headache,” She pushed off the wall, and lurched forward, jamming her shoulder right back into the wall, as she almost lost her balance, but only almost.

Rue moved to sit next to the Admiral. "She's thin as a rail and has the palest spots for a Trill that I've ever seen." She leaned back so that she could cross her ankles. "That's not just fatigue there." Wydown ran her tongue against her cheek, thinking. "When I saw her on the bridge earlier I thought something was off. But the bloody bugger was about as bossy as I’ve seen that I thought maybe I was just seeing something." She grabbed Blu by the arm and hauled her back into place, continuing as if nothing had happen. "It's why I followed her. Thought she might need a bit of help. I can see why now. You're a handful. You always this stubborn?"

“Yes. And I'm fine. I had just hit my head recently, the ride was, a bit bumpy and I just aggravated it I guess. Fine, I'll go with you, just so you get to look at Rian. And, as long as you patch me to Admiral Hardwick once we get there.”

“Thank ye love." She grinned toothily. "One less thing for yer crew to worry about too." The Admiral and Commander could see Kwai coming down the promenade with a med tech and a chair for BluRox. Blu, unhappy enough to have to be helped to sickbay, flattens her ears in agitation over not only the chair, but the added medtech, surely to draw attention now. Rue, used to similar displays from her own captain, lets it be, and comments, "Oi, here comes the calvary again. Ye ready?"

“XO's! I’m beginning to think they added a course at the Academy after I left. XO 101: How to annoy your Commanding Officer," BluRox muttered darkly.
