Working the Problem

Vakhtang Dalsazashvili sat in a near the torn out viewport of room 301. There was part of him that was surprised that this would happen. He heard the reputations of the engineers who "disappear" to Maturin Station. They were some of the best minds that Starfleet had to offer, so a seemingly simple error such as it looked was the case here seemed like it would be nearly impossible.

However, Vakhtang had to consider the circumstances. These engineers dealt in highly advanced and secretive technology on a daily basis. They were on the cutting edge of Black Ops technology, having dealt with processes and theories and technologies that most people never could dream of even grasping. With that being said, the installation of a two story "window" probably didn't register as a top priority to them. And sometimes, even the simplest tasks elude the brightest minds.

Tang had seen it before. His brother, Tenghiz, as brilliant an engineer as there was in this galaxy. He worked in the submersible craft division of his father's maintenance company. He designed and built the most advanced and energy efficient reverse osmosis technology to date. Yet, when hanging pictures and other items in his house, he missed the stud in the wall on four different times, leading to 4 different tears down his walls. . .His eldest brother, Giorgi, repaired warp cores with as much speed and skill as the best engineers in Starfleet. Yet he was reduced to pathetic whines of frustration when it came to building a bassinet for his first born daughter, all because he threw out the instructions. Granted, none of those situations involved a highly classified Starfleet vessel and the possible lives of its crew.

All in all, it seemed like it was just an oversight at the hands of the Maturin Station engineers. Despite the relative vacuum of space and the smoothness of space travel, friction and pressure can be generated, whether it be through the natural vibrations the Manticore itself, tiny insignificant fluctuations in the warp field, a tiny imperfections in the viewport itself, or a whole host of other possibilities. Somehow, they had overlooked something, which caused this situation.

Vakhtang thought about going over the paperwork and records from Maturin . However, all that would probably show is a set of generic steps followed by a checkmark from one of the station engineers to signify that it had been followed and completed. At this point, with no evidence of foul play. Tang's best idea was to go back through the design of the viewport and analyze the design itself for any weaknesses, and redesign it to eliminate those weaknesses.

He holstered his PADD and headed out of the room. Fixing the mistakes of others wasn't exactly how he wanted to spend the rest of the transit to their destination, but it seemed like that was how it was going to be.
