Assistant Engineer's Personal Log

=/\=BEGIN LOG=/\=

Demore looked out the window, suddenly thinking about the colony. He sat down. The day the attack took place would not leave his head.

He was sitting in the front parlor of the home, with his sister. Lord knows where she is now. They were playing chess, a mind game Demore had introduced to the colony about a year before. Many of the Bajoran’s who were at the colony had learned the game quickly, and rarely did Demore defeat them in a game. Demore himself had found the game in the Starfleet Gaming Archives, searching for a game to play with Mor Rem (sister, who was adopted; Bajoran) during a rare downtime at the colony. They had both learned to play at the same time and, although Demore rarely admitted, Mor always won. She never seemed to care, though. He thought about her. She was adopted – Demore never actually knew why or how. But, the colony itself did have a lot of the Bajoran species living there. At one time specifically, Demore remembered the number of Bajoran’s in the colony outnumbering the number of Terran there.

Demore looked around the room. He had always thought he would see his sister again after the attack, but it had never happened. The Bajoran government came and took her away when their parents were killed, and he was sent to Starfleet. One of these days, he would have to make a trip to Bajor. Perhaps there, he could find out what happened to his sister. But… not now. Now was not the time to be leaving, finding, searching, or dwelling. He did have a job to do, after all.

He thought back to the attack. Was there something I missed? Mor was taken away – there was no doubt about that. He had often wondered why, though. She was Bajoran, but was the adopted parents of colonists. For all Demore knew, she had made the choice herself to go back to Bajor. We got along so well.

But, there was no use in dwelling about it now. Mor Rem was his sister, no matter what. He would always have the memories, but he couldn’t dwell on them.

He tapped a console. “Computer, bring up biography of colonist Richard Demore.” Demore waited for the computer to load the biography.

“No Biography on File. Starfleet Colonist Records are available. Would you like to access these?” replied the computer.

Demore nodded, “Yes, yes… access the records.” In all of his years in Starfleet, Demore had not once even thought about the colonist records. He didn’t expect them to be much, but he looked at the readout on the screen.

END REPORT

-----------------------

Demore didn’t understand. Why was information about the attack classified? and Why was dad missing for those 1.8 stardates?

It wasn’t making any sense. Demore had never even thought of looking at the files about the attack, but he knew he was going to now… or at least what he could. He was confused.

But, he didn’t have time to think about it now. He had asked Commander GromVik for a meeting later in the day, and Demore had to get to it.

He looked around the room once more, and went out the door with a confused look on his face.
