Hey there,

That's a tough call. A lot depends on behind the scenes talks between Activision and Paramount. While personally I think there is a valid claim to some of Activision's accusations, I'm not totally convinced it isn't just a ploy to get a better contract from Paramount.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

paramount needs to make a choice: keep its game department or sell it to Nintendo or some other company.

::shakes head:: There's no way Nintendo would by the rights to the Trek genre.  The Game Cube and GBA (SP) are mainly geared towards kids and younger teenagers while the PS2 and the X-Box are generally geared towards late teens and up.  I think it would be cool if Lucas Arts purchased the rights, then you'd have some weird irony thing going on.

umm lucas arts actually might buy it because Geogre Lucas is a Star Trek fan now there's more irony for you but I don't care who gets the rights as long as I can get console games :D

Nah, Trek should stick to the PC.  It's never really done that well on consoles.

I just mean my harddrive is only 40gb and I have other games so it would be great to have some some trek games that lag my comp and I feel like kicking my comp lately so a console game would be nice only like first person shooters and such though   :D

There's probably some sort of contract thing going on where Lucas Arts can't make Star Trek games.

Part of the reason why the Star Trek games didn't do well on console is because they are so friggin hard.  You had to jump through all sorts of hoops to get past the first mission.  It just wasn't realistic along with the series.

I believe the only two were one for TNG and one for DS9.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that...I'm not including anything newer than say n64.

Hi there,

You have to take into account that console gamers are, on the whole, different than PC gamers.  Console gamers don't want a game that's going to take them months to master, like some of the Star Trek games out there.  PC gamers seem to be more patient with that sort of things.  This is why you see more strategic games on PC than on consoles.

I've worked in the video game industry for close to four years now.  I can tell you, console games in general continue to degrade.  The same problems that are happening in Hollywood are affecting the video game industry.  Most games are, for the most part, all special effects and images to "wow" you rather than actually having a captivating plot or a creative concept.  Most games are designed to be played for a week or two, then you go out and buy a new one.  You don't see new concepts but, you do however see many many many sequels to games.  (Examples: Silent Hill 3 (PS2), Tony Hawk 4 (All Systems), Crash Badicoot (#5 all systems) ) There's nothing wrong with sequels, but in general, the companies are only trying to get the most out of their dollar by releasing sequels.  There's no pressure or desire to produce games with new concepts.  Even Halo, which X-Box buyers hail as the best first person shooter of all time, lacks in its originality. (Halo 2 Comes out this fall :) )

I agree with you.  The Star Trek games were just too difficult for console gamers.  After just a week, I was on the internet (or back then, using Game Genie) looking for codes to help beat the game. :)

i'd like a trek game with more rpg and character building aspects. I think that it would be good to have some new trek games that weren't all bang bang, boom boom. I mean, think how many of the trek episodes there were that had absolutely no "action" action but were about social problems on the ship.
