The USS Caliban (Miranda class) was recently ambushed by a team of unknown pirates in an uninhabited sector while doing deep-space survey work; they were able to fight off the assailants but have suffered severe damage to shields, propulsions, artificial gravity, and life support, as well as many injuries among the crew.
