What Now?

Putting down yet another empty cup of her drug of choice near the coffee maker , Eva ran a hand over her face as if trying to brush away the overwhelming fatigue . She glanced around , first in Lt Commander McFly's direction to make sure he wasn't wiggling around in his chair aggravating his cracked ribs, then at the rest of sickbay , now empty of most patient.

 

If the aftermath of the attack had been a lesson in chaos, it now simply looked like a pathetic mess. Tired doctors, bandaged up more severe patients , burned bulked heads , wires hanging in what had been surgical bay and as if sickbay , as if the entire ship , hadn't been through enough yet, that cryptic message .

 

Everybody around her seemed too tired to think any of it beside raising an eyebrow and muttering an interrogation. It had seem like a broken tape from a not so distant past. Working around the clock , savings lives, patching up wounds and regenerating burns has a way of making you simply not care enough about some crazy ramblings and inconsistencies. Demoting the admiral... Creation of black ops .. ? Eva shook her head . She had so many questions but felt too exhausted to ask them all . Only one remained on her mind " What now? "
