Report: Bryiam Trade Mission

TO: Captain Ah-Windu Corizon, Commander Rue Wydown

CC: Department Heads, U.S.S. Excalibur

FROM: Commander Laarell Teykier

MEMO: Bryiam Trade Mission

The Excalibur is being dispatched to the Dominion world Bryiam in order to conduct a trade mission. This mission is of importance both commercially and as an in-road into discussions with a planet which still lies under Dominion jurisdiction. Bryiam is in the Upvos Sector, approximately five days away from Camelot Station.

The primary export of Bryiam is a fuel gel, similar to plasma gels in its cleanliness of burn and possible uses. However, the Bryiam fuel gel has much more energy output per unit than its cousin fuel, allowing for a faster, more powerful burn. It is extremely volatile, yet easily frozen, making transport easy. The Dominion had controlled (and utilized) the processing and output of the fuel for some time; at this point, they have apparently ceased to require it of the Bryiamiads (or at least as much of it), and have allowed the planet to open its doors to external trading ventures.

The Bryiamiad fuel is a product of natural volcanic processes on their planet, which is then refined through a complicated process of leaching native minerals out of the gel and concentrating it into its potent form. The Bryiamiads have apparently been trading this material since before their induction into the Dominion. An exact date for this is not currently known, but it is assumed that it has been the status quo for some time. Prior to the Dominion takeover, the Bryiamiads were an advanced species, with records of large cities now in ruins, as well as of large oceans in currently dry, expansive basins. Now, the Bryamiad populations are in smaller communities which are centered around the fuel processing centers and deposition depots, though the decrease in Dominion control has brought about some expansion and development. Work is underway on a new space station to handle incoming and outcoming trade, as well as orbital refueling structures.

Their planet is not necessarily strategically positioned, and aside from the output of the fuel-gel, they do not produce many other exports. Bryiam is an extremely volcanically active world, with limited food-producing regions that, in spite of fertile soil, are too rocky to lend themselves towards exportation. In spite of the extreme vulcanism, the planet is M-class, if barely, with icecaps at the polar regions and equatorial jungles ranging up into the tropics.

Bryiamiads themselves are a semi-reptilian species which have naturally adapted to habitate in a wide range of regions, a trait which has served them well with regards to the damage wrought by the Dominion. They have six limbs, bipedal with four arms, and are cold-blooded.

Efforts should be made on this mission to maintain the trust of this species while they make their first steps into a world outside of the Dominion. Securing the trade rights for Federation use of the fuel gel is of an equal priority; care should be taken to examine the full range of potential for future contact with this world while being mindful of the diplomatic aspects of this mission.
