Science officers were usually portrayed as a “know-it-all” bunch, and it was generally a good assessment, but for the moment Ellie felt like a poor example of it.

 

Dimensional weapons, aliens that could make themselves, and crewmembers, phase in and out, damage to the fabric of the universe and now the closes thing she had to a friend aboard had simply vanished. Samantha had been shifted to another dimension best-case scenario, and Ellie preferred to simply ignore the worst case one.

 

The young scientist was lost. This mission was not the kind of thing the Academy had prepared her for. The answers she had for the Captain were noting but at best educated guesses; yes, the weapon’s discharges were causing damages to this region of space. Yes, it could very well turn out to be irreversible and permanent if the weapon was not put out of order soon. The other answers were pure conjectures; maybe the weapon was causing dimensional rifts. Maybe the transporter overloaded and transported Sam in one of those rifts. Maybe.Maybe.Maybe.

 

Ellie ‘s fingers were flying furiously across the console, running by the computer different scenarios and analysis of the external sensors data. She knew Arcadia needed her crewmember back, or at the very least determine with all certainty what happened to their science officer.
