Nooblar Incoming!

Hello everybody. I'm the new guy... Or rather, more accurately, I'm *another* new guy. I've been looking around for a while and decided I like the idea behind this place. In the process, I've come up with a few questions I couldn't answer all by myself. Therefore, in addition to the primary function of this post - that being a self-introduction - I have come bearing questions.

Primary Function: Hi! I'm Geoffery H. Luxembourg, but you can call me Geoff. This, of course, is the name of the character I'd like to play in the sims, hopefully the academy sim listed for tonight at 9:00 PST (Which should be midnight EST, if I'm translating correctly?). I look forward to meeting you all and playing on the boards.

Secondary Function: So, I was trying to familiarize myself with your chat room program today when I discovered that without a password, I couldn't get in. Upon attempting to use my name and password for this site to get in, I was met with failure. How do I get myself set up for logging in to the sims?

Tertiary Function: As I understand it, all I've got to do is show up for the sim at the scheduled time in order to be put into action. However, looking around the forums, I've noticed several pages with crew manifests and biographies. Should I have one of my own prepared in advance, or should I not be concerned about that until graduation from the Academy sim?

That is all for now!

-G-Lux

Primary Output:

WELCOME TO STSF!!!!

Secondary Coils:

Go check out "Tips from the Moose" to learn how this all works. Basically, you got it right, though. Show up to get a post in the Academy.

Tertiary Function Generator:

The Advanced SIMs are operated differently and actually separately. The unique thing about this place is that many of these SIMs have migrated from other systems to here. So this place is actually a mutual coop.

Quad Pack:

Don't worry so much about your character as yet. That comes later after you have graduated from the Academy. If you read my posts here you will note that I graduated a couple months ago and have opted to take my time in selecting an advanced SIM to join. I have, however, started my character development here at the Academy under the guise that graduation is a two-step process. The graduation achieved during an Academy SIM just the 'practical' portion. The academic portion (where you want to go, your 'major' as it were) is done afterwards by creating PERSONAL LOGS and continuing to attend Academy SIMs until you have found your niche.

Regardless of how I am doing this.... Have fun! That's what this is all about...

Welcome aboard!

To log into the chat rooms you'll need the same name and password you used to register on the site. Once you are logged in the message board, lookat the top right corner there is a direct link to the chatrooms ( Note that they are generally empty unless a sim is in progress )

AS Rosetto said , don't bother with character bio at this moment . As a rule of thumb , players only get into details about their character when they join an advance sim ,after graduation.

If you have any questions , there's always a bunch of GMs around ready to answer your questions ( and as you can see the other players are friendly as well , but normally talking to the GMs is the best way to get the right answer the 1st time)

oh and I forgot .. HAVE FUN!

::clears throat::

Welcome!

Two things to remember: 1) Any Academy hosted by STSF N'Dak is a guaranteed suicide mission [And that's a direct quote from his signature]. 2) Never compare the GMs to Captains Bligh or Queeg if you want to get graduate sometime before the turn of the century.

That being said, I'd recommend reading: How to sim, as well as: Tips from the Moose

For all your technobabble needs, visit Memory Alpha or Ex Astris Scientia.

Academy times are listed ET, so adjust as appropriate for your timezone. Academies are mandatory, and everyone is human. Save your character development for your Advanced Ship. Minimum graduation time is 3 Academies, but don't expect to graduate that quickly; the host teams prefer to see how are over a longer span of time. And once you are posted to your first Advanced Sim, it's strongly recommended that any ideas that go outside Trek canon be approved by your host team.

Welcome to STSF, G-Lux! I hope you have a great time here and enjoy the simming.

Just to clarify...

The Academy sims are a requirement before you can take part in the advanced games, and generally we recommend that you not worry about an advanced biography until you've graduated from the academies. However, there are no requirements in terms of log-posting or external activities for graduation; you are graduated when the GMs have seen enough of your play in-sim to be certain that you understand how the game works and how to play well with others.

Again, welcome, and feel free to ask around if you have any other questions. :)

Actually, it is your Academy attendance, performance, interaction, ability to follow instructions and behavior which the GM's will take note of for graduation from the Academy. There is no requirement to write logs when someone is in the academy.

Unless there were an issue or a borderline case for abusing the boards, I doubt I'd even use them to judge somone by....
