... and there's ( apparently ) a chapter near where I live.

I don't know, though: I'm already stressed out. I'm not sure I really need anything else to complicate my life. Besides, they're probably all TNG fans.

Local chapter groups can either turn out well or not. A lot of them are or can be very clique-ish - together for years, that sort of thing. I did try a local chapter, just not my thing. Honestly, STSF is way better.

I belonged to a Starfleet chapter for a while. The one I belonged to was a community service organization with an interest in Star Trek. I did get to meet a lot of neat people when we hosted cons, but as far as role playing - that was beyond them. I prefer OLRP for the simple fact that I know we're all nerds here (but I should speak for myself, I guess) and I enjoy writing more than I enjoy painting Christmas ornaments. And I can take STSF wherever I go in the world. ::hugs laptop::

Nope; I happily jump into the nerd category with you Commander. Forget the meek, the nerds shall inherit the Earth.

Local chapter groups are all well and good, and volunteering is an honorable activity. But engaging in OLRP with this STSF bunch is a much more preferable activity, IMO.
