HOW MANY

Hi!

Can anyone tell me how many active participants there are here? The site boasts 3060 current members however the last graduate from the Academy was a couple of months ago and even if a third of those are still cadets then each vessel here would have an average of 170 active crew members...

I realize that many people just come here to browse and watch... I am just curious... :P

There are a lot of folks here who have multiple accounts registered (different characters on different sims + GM accounts for a few). Those accounts remain even when a character is retired from a sim, or a name is changed to reflect a promotion, etc.. So they can stack up pretty quickly.

Also, sadly, a lot of accounts have been created by the various spammers that have plagued us over the years. So the 3000+ count is very misleading.

That's not a great attitude. You can do it!!

In regards to how many of us there are: I think your best bet would be to visit all the ships' websites, count their roster, and then subtract 2-4 for LOA players or players who aren't as consistent and add those counts up and you'll have a idea(ish) of how many of us play regularly.

Did I making the 2010 census for the Federation forum...

I dont have a personal net connection, So a guaranteed time online isnt realistic for me. I might be able to make it once a month for sims, but even then its hit and miss. I've been to the Academy Simulation twice and since Im a newby at any type of sim, I just figure I would leave it to the pros to run the fleet.

So I will be 'a helpful elf' behind the scenes, 'which no longer serves any useful purpose'.

Nisha:

I'm pretty much a newbie around here too but I will give you this advise. Attend the Academy at least until they graduate you to Ensign status. Then I would simply chat with the Advanced SIM Hosts here via PM. They may have things that you could do to help out. One thing is for sure. If you show up for the Academy then you are most welcome to partcipate even after you graduate.

This would get you a maximum number, but many of the regulars play in several games. If you want the number of players, you might cut the above number in half.

Joy:

Thanks, Professor, Sam. I think I shall spend the day doing exactly that... counting the rosters. From my discussions with others on this and other topics it would seem that there are definitely a group of regular participants and a number of members who simply do not participate at all. There are also many inactive accounts that simply need to be deleted.

GMs:

I am offering my services to help clean this up. I seem to have an over abundance of time on my hands right now....

Mr. Rosetto,

I don't know what "clean up" you are referring to. We don't have an exact number of players, because we have some people doing double, triple, etc. duty on sims. We have people who have created accounts that only post to the Boards and don't sim. We also have some people who are just occasional players or posters and might seem to never be around.

All of this is fine to the GMs and to the other players. We don't need a precise number of active players (which would be in daily flux anyway), nor do we need any lists or documents cleaned up.

Might I suggest a vegetable garden or volunteering at an animal shelter, if you need something to do with your time.

From my personal research:

Vessel active / LOA

USS Agincourt 19 / 2

USS Arcadia 15 / 15

USS Challenger 19 / 2

USS Comanche Creek 08 / 1

USS Excaliber 25 / 0

USS Hood 13 / 1

USS Republic 12 / 3

Sky Harbor Aegis 19 / 0

RES Talon 09 / 2

KoB Tranquility 07 / 0 (rough estimate considering the game has not officially started yet)

Crew Manifest not readily available

USS Manticore

USS Reaent

It's more like a guess, really. I can't imagine how you came up with this number since you haven't even asked me about Qob's roster, and the one on our website is empty. :)

It's virtually a lock that all of Qob's initial players will be players from another game, since the game hasn't had a chance to be presented to Academy graduates in its new form. So as far as coming up with a group count, you can throw Qob out entirely. That just gives you an example of how counting the STSF roster would be a lot like running in circles.

I have heard from many GMs that this sort of count is only going to confuse matters, so this thread is now locked. If someone wants to join a sim, it is best to speak with the Command team of the sim, talk to the players (i.e., that can all be done by visiting a running or two of a particular sim {or many sims}), even just reading the posted logs. All of this will provide a more accurate picture of a sim's match to a player's interest than a list of active participants.
