Reliving First Contact

For those with NetFlix, First Contact is now available to watch online.

It's been a while since I've seen it and ya know.... not nearly as good the second time 'round. The acting and lines during dramatic moments seemed cheesy and the Borg were messed with too much. The Borg Queen just seemed wrong, a character they had to make so the "formula" would work. I'll go as far to say the Borg were dealt almost as bad a hand in this movie as the Remans were in Nemesis. One became zombies the other vampires.

Anyone else watch this again and find problems with it?

Well...depends on who you ask I'd guess: I'll take First Contact over Generations.

Yet, I'm also a die hard Original Cast fan, and I'd rather watch the Classic Trek movies if I have the choice.

You also have to understand that I've been "done" with TNG for a few years now. Other then the offshoot USS Titan novels, starring Riker and Troi (which are a very good read by the way), the TNG series and movies just don't interest me anymore.

It's not that I dislike Picard and Company -- they were and are the first Golden Child of the continuing franchise, and the TV show was high quality sci fi entertainment during it's time. I can just sorta move on without them. :P

Well, let's see. I have the STAR TREK BOX SET which includes I thru VI (and GEN) and I have STAR TREK XI. Hmmm.... I don't seem to have ANY TNG movies? I wonder? However, as I recall, I did see First Contact in the theatres and would purchase the DVD if it was in front of me. I agree, the borg were very weak in this movie. I did enjoy the Earth Characters though... Especially Cochrane! What a hoot!

I actually had problems with it the first time around - for the same reasons you state, SubCommander.

all of you made good points on TNG movies-i bought neimess which was a horrable movie, first contact was ok -even though i loved the part about cochrame and meeting the vulcans...i thought all the TNG MOVIES had bad scripts,-picard love story sucked,also-trol taking command of the ship....they made riker a sap too...

The TNGers were better as a TV show cast overall. A movie ensemble cast will never be explored to the depth that a TV character can be. IMO.

TV Picard: Select viewer audience. A diplomats diplomat. Commanded his ship with the security (and by the book) of a veteran Fleeter.

Movie Picard: Appeal to a wider audience. Phaser rifle toting (First Contact, Insurrection) Captain, the diplomacy was shot to hell, dare I say Original Kirk-type.
