Playing Drunk

Hi everyone!

Last nite was really fun! We (KBear, Random, TKAR, Odonnel & myself) were checking out this class M planet as a possible 'shore leave' locale and encountered some interesting lifeforms (to say the least). I enjoyed playing 'drunk' as did everyone else, I believe although KBear (as GM) knocked me out before I went completely kooky! LOL I hope that more SIM's are liken to this where we can relax and really get into the characters we are portraying. BTW, I am starting to understand what Joe (Manning) was talking about when it comes to 'making things up'.

See you 'round campus!

The flip side of "playing drunk" is you have to know when to pull yourself back Rosetto and not have a Sim descend into a complete mess.

Most Players assume the logical progression of playing drunk is leading to some sort of bar brawl, and that's usually not a good situation full of laughs, so you have to realize how to approach this sort of situation with "real life" in mind and that there can and will be consequences.

I'm a happy drunk... Ask KBear! LOL But, yes, I understand. There is time for fun and time for seriousness. It is just a SIM but people expect you to play your part so they can play theirs; a group effort.. I think we did pretty well, considering...

Thanks for the inputs, tho! :P

But then that is what Academy SIMs are for: learning what does well, what goes wrong, and receiving suitable feedback.

Better to play a sloppy drunk in an Academy sim than in an advanced RP.

I totally agree that the Academy is where you learn what works and how to make things work. However, I would suggest that there are rarely any simming situations where playing a sloppy drunk will work.

... and I agree with you completely.

I'm just saying it's easier to shut the door on such RPing in an Academy ( where it can be written off as a learning experience ) than in an Advanced Sim where such activities have long-term repercussions.

That, and in Academy settings getting feedback on such activities is par for the course. Advanced Sims grant far more leeway to their players.

Good points from both of you! Thank you... I am still learning about RPing and can tell you it's not the easiest thing I've ever done but it is definitely interesting and helping me to understand better how to build these RP tools. As well, I am learning and enjoying the comradre here which is also a very important part of RPing and real life.

What were we talking about? LOL Oh yeah, Playing drunk...

All I can add to this is that I am truly enjoying getting to know you guys. Being a hard-core trekker as I am, as you all would know, is not all that 'fashionable' these days but it is definitely the one thing that has stuck with me over the years. I have always thought that we (mankind) could achieve these goals, however, we have a ways to go. Some of it can (in some cases already has) become a reality which sets TREK apart from the others, in my humble opinion. I think THAT is what originally attracted me to TREK in the first place, that it was grounded in real science.

As for RPing, time will tell. I will do my best. I am also a writer and so my imagination can be set adrift (another key element I have found in RPing). I just hope that you guys enjoy my inputs as much as I do...

I will do my best to accommodate your requests as they come across my desk... BTW, I was glad that you were there (with me sort of) last night. I have no idea where I'll end up but you can rest assured that I will be here and will always have the same e-mail address. I have had it since I don't know when.. forever it seems...

Haha. So when I read this topic title, I thought it was in regards to being drunk in RL while simming. I have played once of twice after a big glass of wine or a couple of beers, and I have to say it's not all that much fun. It's really hard to sit and pay attention to all that text and concentrate on what's going on. So, for anyone who thinks this is a good idea, it takes the fun out of it (imo).

So there's your PSA brought to you by the Federation Ad Council.

Sam,

I couldn't imagine trying to follow a SIM (Advanced or Academy) if I were really drunk.

Guess we could identify this as SUI! (said with a true southern drawl) LOL
