If I were a Romulan, what would I be like?

Probably something like this ...

Nice... But you are not Romulan. And as you are not, we have the honor of your friendship. Live long and prosper, T'aral.

You'd be sent to receive a standard haircut and uniform. There are standards to be kept!

This is a character from Baldur's Gate I believe. I used it as inspiration for an SGV Romulan years ago. I lost the version where I gave her Romulan ears.

Yes: the character is Maya from Space: 1999, played by Catherine Schell.

T'aral:

We are all 'experienced' here. I used to love that show, but I can't tell you that I remember any episodes... Gilligan's Island, well! LOL I also used to watch a show called simply UFO (I think). It was pretty obscure...

Oh yeah!! UFO was great! The first live-action show by the Brits who brought us Captain Scarlett, Fireball XL-5 and Thunderbirds! I especially loved the purple hair and fishnet blouses of the babes on the moonbase and that the aliens "breathed" a liquid atmosphere!

Although quite interesting in its own way, Space 1999 struggled to produce a memorable episode. There were three or four, if I think about it. "Dragon's Den" gave me nightmares for weeks.

The most interesting part of "UFO" was that they did pause to explore the technical. The liquid atmosphere the aliens used was thought of as necessary due to the high accelerations of interplanetary travel. It also seemed to have a protective effect vs. Earth atmosphere, which they seemed to decay in. Mind you, the most memorable UFO episode was the episode that never was - the one where Foster was kidnapped by aliens.

Wow T'Aral! There's no question of your memory! LOL I can barely remember watching them. Star Trek, however, I have seen so many times that I can almost quote their lines. I was raised on TOS and enjoyed TNG however my following had fallen off with DS9 & VOY so much that ENT failed to even interest me.

When TNG was winding down I had actually written Paramount and described a proposed spin-off. It was based on another show from the 60's named 'Police Story' where an actual case was acted out every week. There were no main series characters, each week was a different cop in a different situation. I proposed that they do something similar in the Star Trek Universe. DS9 was a weak attempt at this idea. I envisoned it more liken to what we are doing here at STSF.

It's no miracle; "UFO" was on the Sci-Fi Channel about a decade or so ago. That allowed me to catch up on a few things. As for "Dragon's Den", when you have an old memory and a chance to discover where it came from - I doubt that many would pass up the chance.

I wish I remembered the episode so that I could explore my empathy, but I'm sorry to bring back old nightmares for you. Perhaps I will go find a video store and grab a couple episodes! :P Gotta admit, that site that I posted has some fun clips and I stayed they for quite some time! LOL Especially like the Lt. Ellis clip... very racy! Tee Hee

(gonna go finish watching 'across the universe')

Don't worry - I'm an adult now. What scared me as a child is a point of interest now. Mind you - the monster of "Dragon's Den" is still horrifying. It's a Lovecraftian Cthulu Nightmare, even if it operated like a rubber mass with a crew of interns inside. But now it is more 'neat' than terrifying.

Yes - the classic Lt. Ellis clip is a treat for adolesent boys everywhere.

Space: 1999 is a wee bit before my time, but I did recently check out (or tried to) the first few season 1 episodes thanks to a DVD loan from a coworker.

Uh, no, the series love didn't happen. I can't sleep...the bell bottoms will get me...

It was okay, that's just my opinion. Martin Landau and Barbara Bain rocked out, but I could take or leave the rest of the cast. The one cast member slipped way too far into "over dramatic" territory during an alternate universe episode.

Does anyone recall a 90's series called Space Rangers? One of the lead actors was Linda Hunt, currently of NCIS:Los Angeles fame. I'm waitin' for this series to make a DVD appearance, because at the time I liked the show.

As for the Rihans, have always enjoyed them as a race and character(s) within Trek. The Diane Duane novels are the best.

However, if I could minor gripe: don't really care for the V bone forehead thing. ::shrugs::

ACTUALLY-There was a joke on the set -from Deforest, nimoy, shatner and the rest of the cast-star trek will come back again-like mondays starfleet,tues-the women of the enterprise;wed-mccoy,medical;thurs-the men of the enterprise:Friday-vulcans and aliens;sat-new adventures and on sunday reruns of the orginal...

Took me a while to find your comments:

TKAR QUOTE "ACTUALLY-There was a joke on the set -from Deforest, nimoy, shatner and the rest of the cast-star trek will come back again-like mondays starfleet,tues-the women of the enterprise;wed-mccoy,medical;thurs-the men of the enterprise:Friday-vulcans and aliens;sat-new adventures and on sunday reruns of the orginal..."

But I found them... LOL Interesting. I could see the McCoy series turning out like the ill-fated "Trapper John M.D." spin-off from the "M.A.S.H." series... Shatner doing a "Dancing with the Cast" series! LOL

Not QUITE my vision, but whatever... Too funny. Because of budget restraits TOS ended up being SO campy! There is a book out there written by the show's producers that has some really kewl insights to television production and what was REALLY going on.

Did you guys know that MISSION IMPOSSIBLE was produced by the same group and filmed on the same sound stage? When Nimoy wasn't getting enough air-time on Trek he was temporarily added to its cast as compensation! Also, the famous 'slat-eyed' alien that was in almost all opening credits was a full-sized mannequin that stood in one of the producer's office for years! LOL

Actually, Star Trek ended in June of 1969 and his stint on Mission: Impossible didn't start until about 3 months later (and continued until 1971), so I don't think it was because of any lack of Trek airtime.

Interesting... It's been years since I read that book.... I have no idea where it is right now but now I want to find it... I do tend to screw some things up (times, dates, etc.) but I could almost swear that's what I read in the book. Who knows! LOL
