Moving up in the world

The Eastern Russian spring reminded Jyrd of his childhood home along the Flyrian shores. Located North of the city of Vladivostok, the Ambassadors villa sat on the shore of the Sea of Japan. JJ walked along the outer pergola of the gardens, which were adorned with plants and flowers native to Earth the Sovereignty alike. The garden walk met up with a trail, laid out with Dlugan marble, which led out to a point which extended a few hundred yards out into the ocean. It was there, the ambassadors aides told him, that the ambassador herself, Archduke Yrallya Khri, was waiting for him.

As he walked down the trail, JJ allowed himself to indulge in his surroundings. The cool salt breeze, the light spray of the waves crashing against the rocks below, and, perhaps most significantly, the Song. He hadn’t felt Its presence since he had left Earth for the Reaent. JJ had to avoid the urge to drop to his knees and meditate there on the spot, but he knew better than to keep the ambassador waiting.

As he approached the gazebo, he could see the ambassador and her aide stand. As JJ came closer, the Ambassador Khri opened her arms.

“Honored Count. . or should I say Honored Lieutenant. . .Jyrd Lexi,” she corrected herself “I bid you welcome” she said with a warm smile

“Honored Archduke Khri of the Sovereignty” JJ began the formal greeting “I accept your welcome with honor and humility.” He genuflected in front of her in traditional Brythton style before rising back to his feet. As he reached his feet, the ambassador drew him into an embrace.

“It is so good to see you well, my child.” She said, releasing her embrace and motioning for JJ to take a seat across from her. “We feared the worst when we received reports of the Reaent’s disappearance in Romulan space.”

“The journey has certainly not been easy, Madam Ambassador. But we have survived to fight on another day.” JJ kept his response neutral and PC, not really wanting to get into the specifics of either mission. “My only wish is that I’ve made the Sovereignty proud.”

The ambassador nodded. “You certainly have, my child. You certainly have. Your father is extremely proud of you.”

JJ nodded, keeping silent at the mention of his father. He hadn’t heard news of the results of the latest Sortition for the House of Plyla. His father had entered his name in the running, and he was more than anxious to hear the results.

“Which reminds me,” the ambassador began again. “I have news regarding your father.” With that, she stood up and held out her hands. “Jyrd, son of Alstar, kneel.”

JJ smiled and went to one knee in front of the ambassador. This was obviously a good sign.

“Before me, is Count Jyrd Jyrme Lexi. Servant of the Song, citizen of the Sovereignty” she began. “By the power granted to me by the Song, I hereby bestow upon you the title of Duke, with all the privileges thereof.”

“I accept this title with honor and humility.” JJ began. “I shall continue to serve the will of the Song as long as my life goes on.”

“Now, arise as Duke Jyrd Jyrme Lexi, Honored Lieutenant of Starfleet, Second Heir to the House of Plyla.”

JJ stood up, and his eyes met with the Ambassador. “Thank you Madam Ambassador.”
